Pat 'the rat' McQueer is again using the media to try and put Zomegnan under pressure to include all of Pat's favourite teams. They're called ProTeams now... not ProTour Teams. I think this is the forth change to the top tier of cycling under dopey-Pats reign. You'd think he'd learn something about diplomacy after the complete hash he made of the whole UCI vs. ASO thing, where somehow, the ASO won the PR battle and showed Pat up for the lightweight he is.

Pat, please get out of this sport, find a corner in an Irish bar and spend most days there getting drunk and into brawls you more suited to.

Is that about Radioshack not getting a Giro invite again?

Wasn't the Radio Shack line last year that they sent Zomegnan a letter in January saying they didn't want to come because they needed to dominate the ATOC? This new ruling forces them to send a team whether they want to or not.

Whenever Mr. McQuaid comes out with something like the list of pro tour teams, and people question it, he comes back with something like this. In my head it always sounds like Cartman from South Park screaming, "are you questioning my authoritie!?" (sic)

The sport would be better without him, but who's to say someone better would take his place? I think the problem is that the UCI has taken on too much power, and they're really not that accountable to anyone. They play God with riders, teams, and races. I guess I should add fans to the list.

For instance, I'm guessing that Italian fans would like to see a number of Italian teams and riders at the Giro, and the French public would like a chance to root for their own.
But nope, the UCI wants us to see the same eighteen team kits at each race.

He can't even get through a short statement of transparency without contradicting himself.

However McQuaid was unwilling to specify how the final selection for places were made, but added that all four elements were equally important.
So we fans, Cofidis and Geox can't know what it is, but it's transparent.

It’s nothing secretive but it’s kept internal so that it doesn’t become ‘a cash for points system’ with riders trying to up their salaries.”

And riders aren't allowed to know how it works, or where they stand, because they might use it as an incentive to improve and earn more money at their jobs.

The ASO said earlier in the year that they'd give automatic Tour invitations to the teams finishing in the top 17. Teams fought for those results, but it's all for naught.

Can't agree more chapeaux swordsman ...

Add-on Fat Pat was shielding yesterday that ASO had signed an agreement already for the new setup, but that is a lie again.

ASO statement: "We have two possibilities: either we sign with the UCI, organizers of the three Grand Tours, a settlement agreement based on the qualifications of eighteen teams at the World Tour, and we have four possibilities of invitation or we resume the contract signed in September 2008 that describes the seventeen teams in the world rankings in 2010, said, according dhnet.be, Jean-Francois Pescheux.
Since the Pro Tour was launched in 2005, UCI had unsuccessfully tried to impose this law

I hope ASO sticks with the old agreement. Just to annoy McQuaid and the UCI. Is there any organization on this whole world that performs worse than they do? Probably only the North Korean ministry of justice.

Good side-effect would be that its fair.

But instead it's a cash for points system in another way in that all the moneyed teams are in, lots of traditional teams are out, and they haven't been told what the points system they've been ranked on is - and what's the use in a little team slaving away for a leader when he can be bought up by a big team and take all those juicy points elsewhere, so it's very easy to see where having a lot of money comes in very handy.

Exactly, imagine how FdJ must be feeling by letting go Le Mevel and getting Fedrigo. The latter is (in my opinion) a better rider, will provide more publicity and is one of the top French guys, but will probably not yield as many points as Le Mevel.

The most interesting thing in GTs invitations according to 2008 "UCI - GT organizers" contract is that whether it'll be current "World Ranking" or UCI's "Sporting hierarchy of teams for 2011" no one french teams would reach TOP-17. ASO can't be happy.
I can agree that all 18 PT teams are really strongest, but UCI points system is still unfair. Every rider is the part of his team, he receives his salary paid by his team, he gains his victories (points) in the jersey of his team and with the help of other riders of his team. So imo this points also belong to his team. But unfortunately UCI don't think so

Exactly. For smaller teams there will be no incentive anymore to invest in rider development and big teams don't care about that as they have money.

Do you see Sky or RadioShack doing this? http://www.sutanblai.com/ata_edukia.php?id_edukia=887
