At first I though this thread was about me since only the "meister" part of the name isn't *** out.

Then I thought, even if it was, what do I give a rat's a** what some internet forum poster thinks of me?

I had a chuckle at the following line regarding Cavendish:

I do have one issue, though - crowning someone a "World Champion" after one race in which he's protected by members of his team and wins a sprint to the line is a bit off. Motor racing and Moto GP have World Championships worthy of the name.

Yes, have your one day race and sprint, and the winner gets 20 points. Then, the next day, have a time trial up Mont Ventoux. Winner gets 20 points. Add the points together.

But seriously, the World Championship simply has to be based on more than one race. Doesn't it?

Perhaps you are thinking of a stage race. We effectively have stage-racing championships, in the grand tours. We have a season-long championship too, the UCI Points Ranking, the phoenix risen from the ashes of the UCI World Cup. The world championship has always been a one-day race held on a different course each year - not just different scenery, but a truly different course. From as flat as Zolder and Copenhagen, to the mountainous course of Duitama, in Colombia. The way you talk about Cav's win makes it seem like the last guy on his team pulled up and he pretty much just coasted to the line. Yes, he didn't fight for his win like maybe some others did, but like it or not, sprinting is a part of cycling.
