Michele Scarponi - form of his life - why skip LBL?

Looking at recent demonstrations in Tirreno, Sardegna, Trentino (did i forget anything?), former (?) Fuentes client Zapatero seems to be in the form of his life.

Although I understand his strong focus on the Giro, it is rather difficult for me to understand that considering being in such great shape, he is not participating in tomorrow's Doyenne. Personally, I think a podium would be a given, maybe even a win with a bit of luck.

Any views?

Clear boundaries between his goals and Cunego's?
In that case, he could have been a superb domestique for Cunego and a plan B for Lampre (and more likely to work than plan A, frankly).

When he was young LBL was precisely the kind of race he excelled at.

Perhaps knows he is coming into form a little too early and fancies backing off a bit now before the Giro. On the razor.

Sort of surprised with the heavy schedule he had before the Giro. It could be a different set of people who are in form in the third week to those who are in form now. Example: Nibali. I'm sure he'll be alright on the night. Probably Menchov too, maybe Kreuziger. By many account Evans and Vinokourov suffered for having been too active in the Ardennes at last year's Giro.

Yeah maybe rather that he just didn't want to go too deep. But as I said, I think he has done quite a lot.

i think it makes sense him not to do liege. not only does he saves energy for the giro but he also doesn't get in the way of cunego in his season main goal even tho said goal isn't looking very good for him atm

and yes michele used to be more of a puncher then a climber earlier in his carrier and i believe that he could be a major treat to the win tomorrow. maybe he goes for the ardennes next year . . .

he has probably a perfect training regime and he has to follow it perfectly.i have huge expectations from him in this giro.
from cyclingnews:

insisting that he was not at 100 percent in Trentino: “Here I wasn’t really brilliant, I still wasn’t at my best.”

let's not forget, after basso last year,he was the strongest.he didn't make it on the podium though but this year he's a favourite for it.

Form is a funny thing works different in each indevidual. The team Doctor will know what his resting lactate is not the lactate test we get from a little meter it is venous lactate taken from an artery he is looked after by the team and his personal coach so he dosnt burn out before the Giro.

He may be feeling in great form he probably wants to ride but the coach says no then no it is . No point in having a coach if you dont take notice of what he says at any level of cycling. LBL is a long hard race so to miss it may be best or you do what Evans did last year half way through the Giro. Blow up.

Evans came 5th in last yrs giro and won points classification. Vino was not focusing on giro, as evident by weak team sent. Also scarponi did not have as big a schedule as Contador. Scarponi took a break beetween San-Remo and Trenito. But yeah Nibali's schedule and methods are counting in fact of hard giro in last week.

Scarponi is training at altitude for Giro is the main answer for this thread. If he goes well in Giro we should all hail his approach.

He has blood withdrawals scheduled for this weekend and racing will risk his passport profile too much. The blood must be withdrawn on Sunday in order for it to be available for reinfusion on the second rest day of the Giro.

So, if he races, he runs the risk of screwing up the schedule and getting popped for passport violations. When you are on the plan, you have to follow it no matter how much you'd like to win the big one day classic like Luik.

You forgot Vuelta a Catalunya (2nd place in GC) and Milan-San Remo (6th place) .

Yeah. You are right. Catalunya and in particular MSR was also incredibly impressive. How can I forget the massive recovery from Cipressa to Poggio.
