Everything that came after their first album sucked.

....well, that is an interesting throw back...we used to get into discussions, way back when, over who would be the opening act in a show that featured Chrome and The Residents....never came up with a conclusive answer...any thoughts?...

Cheers
Well, I'm too young to have been around for that and it was all ancient history for people on the SF music scene by the the time I was old enough to be aware, so in terms of local bands, I'm not sure--probably a few figures that Helios was close too.

Nationally--and the billing order might be different--Destroy all Monsters make a certain sense.

...Destroy All Monsters?....like below...

...feh...they sound like commercial sellouts to me, only in it for the money and the chicks....

....ok...ok...just kidding, because until I saw your post I had never heard of the band....which is too bad because they have an interesting read on the late 60's/early 70's Stooges/MC5 Detroit vibe....

Cheers

For some reason I continue to gravitate to this old album. I forget about it for years, or even a decade or more, and then it comes back, and back. I suppose that's great art, continuously rejuvenating itself in the mind of people to find new meaning.

The Waterboys - World Party

"I have a madman of my own to contend with, cursing in the cave of my skull". hahaha

The Waterboys - We Will Not Be Lovers

Like I said, the whole album is great. It keeps circling back around.

I leave the Celtic keening and ballads for the older generations of the family.

Brownout presents Black Sabbath

hahaha, I'm digging the Brownout. Chrome not so much though. I long ago left the punk rock exclusivity behind. These days my musical appreciation has spread it's wings, I'm more likely to be listening to Count Basie - getting old. Posting that song was a response to your PM obviously. Surely you must recognize no small irony in this Brownout contribution within your response. lol. Here's another song, of my era (saw them more than once), that might be grist for this hardcore-funk re-working.

No irony. For a couple of reasons. The Celtic remark has to do with people claiming personal history through tribal and ethnic identification--valid or not. A reworking of Sabbath is a matter of rock history--and not one of nostalgia where I'm concerned. Although the industrial heavy sound of the 70s can't be separated--I think--from the convulsions and death throes of the social movements of the time.

Chrome seems to be an obscure and acquired taste. But I haven't experienced the kind of distancing effect I get from that album in relation to public tastes in quite some time. That they explicitly meant to put down any lingering hippie sensibilities in the late 70s is fairly admirable. Chrome were also a significant influence for the Butthole Surfers.

Anyway, as balladry goes, here

Meh, you can focus on the form - I was interested in the lyrics in relation to Tiqqun. Pan wasn't technically Celtic. Hair splitting and **** waving don't really concern me too much, particularly where music is the topic of interest.
