Lions also signed Cade Mays away from Carolina. The 3rd best center available (behind Linderbaum, and McGovern).

Chiefs signed vet safety Alohi Gilman to help stop the bloodletting there.

Turns out the Raiders didn't need to cut Geno Smith, instead the Jets traded for him.

Patriots to sign Romeo Dobbs away from GB.

I wonder if the chiefs are trying to go back to the 2018-2020 period of elite offense while their defense tries to hang on.
That was back when Mahomes was in his early 20s & fresh in the league. Now he'll be 31 this Sept & with the ACL injury, it's unknown whether or not he could get back to that level of play. There's a lot more uncertainty with a major knee injury involving a mobile, running QB vs a pure pocket passer. And he may not even be ready to start the season.

And the Raiders get the Jet's 6th & 7th rd picks...not bad.

And Geno is back to where it all started. Will it be any different this time? I see the Jets have already listed him on the depth chart as the starter followed by Fields, Cook & Hooker.

But there's still a lot of questions: Are they going to draft Ty Simpson? What are they going to do with Fields? Does Hooker get a chance to compete for the backup?

Good pick up for the Patriots with Doubs and pretty cheap compared to others. Hendrickson still on the board, 49ers scrambling to keep Trent Williams and will have to overpay him of course or trade him but a trade seems unlikely. 49ers also fielding calls about Mac Jones but teams have said the asking price is astronomical ! Wonder where Fields will end up ?

This puts a mar on Maxx without question. He was adamant that he should be playing the last two games of the season when the team shut him down. That helped facilitate his being traded. And his knee the reason it didn't happen.

One of two things will happen now. 1. He becomes trade bait, and another team takes him when he heals (likely a few weeks), maybe Dallas or Chicago, could be on draft day. But it won't be two first round picks. 2. He stays with the Raiders, gains some humility, and considering he actually is a very hard worker, has a hell of a season for them, and is traded after the season.

Someone is going to grab Ty Simpson in the 2nd round, and I don't think it will be the Jets. My guess is Pittsburgh, Arizona, maybe even Carolina. It depends on how far he falls in the 2nd round.

Going back to the Jets is like arguing with the prison warden that you don't want to be released. Geno is a masochistic player.. He has to just want the paycheck and get another year on his NFL pension.

Crosby is better against the run, and some feel Hendrickson is older than his age. But the Ravens keep the picks.

Meanwhile, word is a lot of GM's are very angry with the way the Ravens and their GM did this. Like, it's going to come back to haunt them. Lots of articles also out there about how the whole "failed physical" is absurd, because it's well documented Crosby had meniscus surgery two months ago. Maxx himself made multiple posts and photos about it, so no one in their right mind would expect him to be 100% healthy right now, even though there's every indication he'll be fully ready to go by the preseason.

Raiders seem okay with keeping him, and still under the cap. At least for now.

You think he'll drop out of the 1st rd? Pittsburgh would be a good landing spot. I don't know about Arizona as they say they're all in with Brissett as their franchise QB. With Carolina that would be a complete vote of no confidence against Young. 2nd rd QBs are always drafted as franchise starters just not quite the urgency of the top drafted 1st rd guys. Look at last year with Tyler Shough. A 2nd rounder (40th OA) who ended up starting the last 9 games & now is the Saints uncontested starter going into 2026.

So true.
It takes more than a year to restore an ACL to total health. IMO that year wouldn't include health jeopardizing impact; it would be all restorative exercise.
That said; it's up individual characteristics to re-achieve speed and agility. No amount of Heroic NFL doctorin' can without risk of major injury. Maybe a Derek Henry would survive at his level but that's not Mahomes. Hopefully it's not a rush to find out what his upside is.

It's not unusual to have some accompanying ACL or other trauma with knee injuries. They don't necessarily merit any surgical intervention but they, as with Mahomes' situation do take their own time for recovery with/without surgery. Trying to close Crosby's deal with just the update on the "repair" element clears his surgeon from his part in the deal but, as this commentator Doc pointed out: Ravens may have checked associated areas and decided the timeline for that investment is off by 6 months or more. If Maxx was willing to sign on that clearance when the Ravens feel it's OK it would be a precedent that doesn't work for him or, especially; his agent. Colleges can get away with that, or used to. Pros: it's either play or sit. The player still gets his $$$$.

Yeah doesn't make much sense. Seems the Ravens have done this a few times before as well.

I heard the 9ers were asking for the team's 1st rd pick for him. Lol.

Great question on Fields. And I often wonder if he's going to make it in this league as a starter.? What has gone wrong with him or why the failure in developing him is the million dollar question. The guy has so much talent it's not even funny. He comes with the rare "Big 3" attributes - elite size, arm strength & athleticism. He came out of HS as the 2nd best QB in the nation (Lawrence #1), broke some passing records & was 2nd Team All-American at Ohio St, and consequently drafted #11 OA.

What a travesty if he ends up as a backup or out of football altogether. Talent of that nature doesn't come around very often.

I can't figure Fields out either. He gets written off, then a team signs him, and he looks good in camp, practice. Maybe has a solid game or two, like when with the Steelers for example he looked, I'll say above average at times. Game manager, with running ability. Or he'll even have some really impressive throws. Then another week or so and the wheels come off and he'll have games (plural) where he looks like a total bust.

I can absolutely see Carolina moving on after Young if he doesn't win a playoff game this coming season. Current GM and HC weren't the ones drafting him. Granted, David Tepper is in charge of everything there and he wanted Bryce, but still, I can see this. Bryce is better than his rookie year, but he's not lived up to the #1 overall pick, plus draft picks they gave up for him (and best WR at the time).

if the 49ers were asking for a 1st for Jones, then they are overrating the lack of QB depth. Sounds like the 49ers don't really want to trade him and there are only two teams currently without a nominated QB starter now. Sounds like Kyler will be at the Vikings soon so the Cards might be the last team and they already have Minshew and Brissett and no doubt will be the interested in the much stronger QB draft in 2027. Fields should find a spot somewhere but his career seems to be in a much worse place than Jones at the moment re opportunities for game time. Browns QB starter could continue to chop and change same with the Jets. Raiders will be all in on the rookie but spent up big after the trade that was rescinded. Wonder how much that changes their financials ? They seemed to have a lot of spending money same as the Titans who have also spent up and Washington has been active as well. The rescinded trade won't please the Cowboys either who were all set to grab Hendrickson until the Ravens went to plan B and swooped in late.
