Need 28h, 26" utility rims, where can I find them OR find new hubs?

I have an ancient but still functioning, and still used, Cannondale ****** trailer. I asked Sheldon Brown's LBS where can I find these, and they suggested contact Cannondale. Cannondale has a blurb in their FAQ (!!) - "any trailers you have questions about are way old, and obsolete, and we can not help you" (paraphrasing).

So - does anybody have any idea where I could get such rims? 28H, 26", the current ones are steel (actually, they are now half steel, and half iron-oxides, but they started out as steel). A simple utility rim. If the axles were a standard bike axle size, I could just substitute some old front hubs and mtb rims, but the axles are bigger.

I'll measure the axles later to get their size, but I will bet I'm going to have to cobble something. Like finding motorcycle front rims, or mashing a non-standard bearing size into a sealed bearing hub, or -- something.

So, either a source for utility rims, as previously mentioned - or a successful renovation project already done - or something.

I'll post again later when I get the axle diameter.

Probably mis-reading your request but you need some 26inch(like 559mm beadseat diameter) 28 hole rims?

If so, velocity has many 26 inch models in 28h..

Just check out

http://www.velocityusa.com

look under 'rims' then 26 inch.

Wow! Velocity - cool. However, I think I will keep looking for solutions. While the rim size is not so critical as to worry about which 26" it is - there is no clearance issue - the cost of the possible rims on Velocity is like $70 each. Whoops - a bit more than I wanted to spend to keep this puppy running.

Thank you for the tip, though! Chapeau!

There are some 24" 28 hole 1-3/8" wide rims on ebay at the moment for a low price - would these work?

Enjoy getting your little ****** back on the road

Howdju do that? :D Make it actually say bu--er - when it obviously gives me all stars!

Cool - you know I tried a google search, more than once, but I must not have used the correct combination of words. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes can do amazing things.

As for different sizes - I have thought about that - it was designed with 26" rims in mind. A different size would make it ride higher or lower, and I don't think the hitch part would be happy about that - although it might work, and I might have to go that way. Before I tried that, tho, I think I would take some front hubs with sealed bearings, pop out those bearings, and go to my local bearing supply to see if they had some bearings with the required ID and OD. The ID to fit the larger axle, and the OD to fit the hub.

By applying some formatting (in this case a colour change) to only part of the word. The swear filter searches the text of messages for words like "bugger", but finds only "bu(COLOR="Red")gg(/COLOR)er" (swap the round brackets for square brackets).

Doing this is specifically against the forum rules, but thankfully we have sensible mods who don't intervene if it is done for a sensible reason and there is no intent to be offensive.
