Hi guys, been reading for a while, new member of the forum. I'm writing for some tips, this july me and the wife are traveling to Europe and I convinced her to arrive the 23 of July to Paris.. yeap that's right.. So I wanted to ask if you have any tips for Sunday 24th.. I don't have any plans to buy VIP tickets, my hotel is one block away from the finish line

1. what time should we arrive?
2. any place you would recommend on getting near the finish line?
3. some of my teammates asked for yellow jerseys, is there a store, or a stand where I can buy them?

if you can think of something else I haven't please let me know!!

Thanks a lot!

1. About 8am if you want to be guaranteed a spot, unless you have vip package. Race comes through at 4pm. Be aware as well that there will be plenty of people turn up at 2, 3, or 4 o clock that think they have a god given right to barge to the front and steal your spot. Feel free to kick them in the ankles.

2. No chance unless you buy a very expensive vip package. The finish line is completely grandstands. There is no general viewing within about 200 metres. Be warned as well there are a lot of packages that claim to have great views of the finish etc that dont. Enjoy paris, enjoy the carnival and the occasion but dont expect to see the finish unless you are in view of a large screen tv.

3. Yes, but you are probably are just as well buying them at the online tour store on http://www.letour.fr

Dim, veteran of 6, or is it 7 trips to Paris. Cant remember honestly.

Thanks for the answer, I was planning to get there at 6.00 am!! you saved me two hours of sleep. I did see the VIP packages.. man they are EXPENSIVE!! It that was the main reason of the trip I wouldn't doubt in buying one.. but that's not the case.. About the jerseys, I know I can buy them on the online store, but it does not have the same feeling if bought on Paris and at the tour!!

Thanks for your help

I recommend getting a yellow jersey, have it signed by the 2nd place guy, and give it some time. Trust me, it'll be worth something after all the testing is done.

Seriously, have a great time, sounds like a great trip!

don't expect to sit anywhere without paying some money. The cafes want you in and out at an abnormal speed on race day. Don't bring a bike or anything bulky. Bring a rain poncho if it looks like you need one. Bring a book, breakfast and lunch and just relax on the side of the road. Make sure you have 2 cell phones. If you get separated from your wife have her stop and call you w a landmark..I am standing under the 500 meter to go sign on the right hand side of the road

Benzwire: JAJAJAJAJA you made my day.. OMG hadn't laughed so hard in a long time, it's a great tip.. go for the second place!! : )

FatandFast: Thanks for the tips, haven't thought about breakfast and lunch!! it would be great to stay on a cafe all day long but it's probably going to be expensive (but not as much as the VIP). the book sounds great idea also...

IF you´re set on the final Paris stage then follow all of the above suggestions. For a more comprehensive tour experience and if your overall trip allows; I would suggest any other stage finish before Paris. Viewing the stage finish will be far easier and the after race hang by the team buses and cars is where you´ll truly amass a load of jpegs for your tour album.

Don´t forget a bottle of vino, pan & fromage.

Bon voyage!
