You probably all heard about the gigantic massive enormous f.cking amounts of snow we in the Netherlands get to endure lately.

Well. Gesink had a 4h training planned, and he wasn't let the snow change his plance. But it must have been pretty hard to plow through this 4 hours long:

I wouldn't call that dedication... just stupidity. What's the point? He'd probably have a more effective training on the rollers.

There is no effective training on rollers.

Plus think of it this way. Training through snow is like mountain riding with all the resistance. He'll be soul owning Andy Schleck on every TDF mountain next year

Very clever.
He can use all that snow as stabilizers, so he won't fall off.
Seems he is digging into Lance Armstrong's suitcase full of superior training.
Andy will be crying into his many Christmas beers.

an impressive contraption !

not sure though if the front end is the best solution... it either needs a wider ski or a smaller diameter and narrower roller-wheel similar to the rear.

or better yet just get on your cross country skis for 3h - that's equivalent to an honest 120 km ride.

Here in Canada, this is normal. In fact, the best training rides in my area are the dirt roads that are covered in snow all winter. An MTB or cross bike is all that is needed. You stay plenty warm and have lots of fun. Plus it's absolutely quiet and beautiful. I've ridden for 4 hours without seeing ANYONE for more than 2 hrs.

On the other hand I've done lots of nice rides along the dikes of the Netherlands. All relative....

When I was a kid we would wait for the snowplow to go by and then follow it as far as it would go.

Gesink is one of those "crashi-guys", right?
Hey, snow makes you land somewhat soft...

Let's just ignore that snow also makes it easier to crash in the first place

Gesink rarely goes fast enough to have the crash cause any impact in the first place;)

Indeed, he goes too fast to crash. I heard he broke the sound barrier the other day.

He might when the teams there to help him, but put him on his own and tell him to tt, and he will fail.

Oh nobody cares about Scandinavia where you live with penguins and wrestle with polar bears

In the Netherlands it's quite uncommon, at least not in these quantities. There's hardly more than 5/10cm if there even is snow. Now it's a half meter

I don't think even many Scandinavians really think too much about cycling in that kind of weather. It's perfect for the likes of Ole Einar Bjorndalen and Tarjei Boe though.

Come on, this post reeks of extreme fanboyism... you make it too easy for the Hitches and Mellow Velos of this world ;)
