NYC Worked With ‘Radical’ Bike Lane Lobbyists?

Landmark Lawsuit Alleges NYC Worked With ‘Radical’ Bike Lane Lobbyists
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Irate Brooklyn residents have filed a first of its kind lawsuit demanding that a controversial bike lane be removed immediately.

The suit includes explosive emails claiming city officials worked with “radical” bike lobbyists to suppress criticism. CBS 2’s political reporter Marcia Kramer has exclusive details.

“They have fudged their data entirely, both in terms of speed and safety. It’s actually … it’s quite horrifying,” Park Slope resident Lois Carswell said.

OMG!! explosive. I will admit that the old blue hairs that are belly aching about this have a point or two. I am sure there are some turn of the century news reports about going from dirt to paved roads and how the sky will fall in when it happened.
I remember out in Mission Gorge when the SD DOT made two lanes into 3..OMG. The Brooklyn issue is not simple, but kinda. You have to pay attention. Like you learned in grade school, look both ways before stepping off the curb.
The azzholes are mad because the have to double the process. 1st look both ways and cross the bike lane..even Cancellara would only be doing half the speed of the cars,so it's not that hard. Once you make it to the buffer zone between the automobile traffic..repeat.

It's 1 way traffic so you can wait for the light. No matter what the Mattlock crowd is fuming about the math is simple, maybe fudged but simple. There are only 2 lanes of crack smoking speeders ready to kill you and the speeds on Prospect Park West are slower. The auto traffic may not have been slowed as much as the "radical bicycle lobby" claims they are but they are slower.

No matter what happens in big cities this is the new norm. People claiming that we would not have to lay off teachers if we were not wasting cash on sub-human hippie cyclists. If the Park Slope crowd really wanted to save a bundle on streets, unions and overhead. Take out all the electric lights and replace them with good old fashion stop signs. The upkeep would drop by 1000's of dollars per intersection and would reduce auto speeds in the process..probably eliminate the need for so many bike paths

Read about this in another forum where a discussion is going on. Seems most people are saying the same as fatandfast here. That this is a pretty minor change, and a really loud minority who is resistant to any change at all is raising a big stink about it. I even heard from a few people who live in that area and say most people hardly notice a difference.

People in areas like this are going to have to wake-up. In 20-30 years a lot more people are simply going to be forced to commute in ways other than driving, and many drivers will be in electric cars as well. It's just inevitable with the way global energy is going.
