After years of not being strong enough to defend Cadel in the grand tours, they seem to be doing an excellant job of riding for Phillp Gilbert in the Vuelta.Or are they going to crack in the next hour?

Evans demands are a little different. Omega would have done fine on a course like this so far as well (with evans I mean). It's when they got to the high mountains they simply didn't have the climbers to support evans -- guarantee they wont be up there this vuelta either.

And yeah, Evans had pretty much identical support at BMC this year. (maybe not mental, but physically no different).

Aussie!!

Another frustrated Aussie spewing the BS about Lotto's failure to support the biggest, the best, the fastest, the Evansest?

Aussie! Excuse me.I'm not a cuddles fan either.Maybe Omega Pharma are more inspired to ride for a charismatic attacker like Gilbert than a sqeeky voiced whinger like cuddles Evans.Anyhow Gilbert just finnished all on his own :

Look at the stages they've successfully defended the jersey on. Rather like the stages they successfully defended Cadel's yellow jersey on in 2008, they weren't major mountain stages. Once we got to the major mountain stages, that was when they suffered. They successfully kept Evans in yellow for five days in 2008, just like they've kept Gilbert in red for five days this year.

Honestly, I know they were not as much help as Evans would have wanted in the mountains (more out of bad luck and the team not really knowing how to approach a season based around GC riding than anything else - Kohl and Dekker were meant to be big mountain helpers but turned out to be frauds), but you make it sound like they were hopelessly incompetent and the second Evans got the jersey he'd be having to pull back every single breakaway on his lonesome, even on flat or transition stages, and they'd be being shelled by sprinters' teams.

They aren't children amongst men.

There is absolutely no difference in Omega - Lotto's ability to help Evans and to help Gilbert. Like some other posters said: on hilly stages and flat stages they can manage, but in the mountains they are on their own. However, Gilbert will actually be dropped in the mountains, Evans didn't in 2007 and 2008.

Gilbert and Omega-Pharma Lotto have no goal to win the Vuelta or defend the jersey in the mountain stages. So it's only obvious that they won't waste their energy.
