A logical extension of thisthread.

For me? The tour de France and the Tour of California, I would type an equally big post, but I have to be up early tomorrow, so I'm calling it a night :p

I'm guessing people who name Milan-San Remo and Paris-Tours subscribe to the notion that the exposure a race gets should be in proportion to how interesting the course and racing is rather than tradition? I can sort of understand that if that's the case but I personally believe that history does play a part.

I can agree about Tour of California. It does not have any real tradition to speak of and that only leaves course and racing and there it does not stand out at all against a lot of other PT or HC stage races.

California - Importance totally out of proportion to reality. Needs a reality check re GT status.
Quatar - A crit in the desert, FFS!!
WC TT (as is now) - Bring back the GP des Nations in Cannes like it was in the 80's
Tour de France - has become a juggernaut consuming all before it. Giro wipes the floor with it for unpredictability & resulting excitment.

Tour of California
Eneco Tour/Qatar (but this is UCI's fault)
Tour Down Under (please dont beat me!!)

ToC no doubt

we should make 2 polls to chose what races should be protour.

1 poll for classics other for stage races. ofc GT's and monuments are already selected.

just to see what would the protour calender look like if it was made by fans.

California, Vuelta a Castilla y Leon, Criterium International, Tour Upside Down immediately spring to mind.

I'd also say Gent-Wevelgem and the Hamburg Classic... Although I don't actually think anyone seriously rates those races anyway.

Le Tour
Eneco
ToC (the equivalent of sky, a lot of talk and hype for average product)
Races like Poland and TDU are not at all better than other non PT races, but they may only appear overrated depending on how much you value the PT.

I don't really like M-S-R, but I understand it's prestige and hype. Sprinting has never been my idea of true excitement, so thus it isn't my cup of tea. But the sprinters deserve a monument also, so i keep this of the overrated list, despite it being a race I barely like.

@ parrulo - the problem is I don't know if i want the good races being PT ;)

To those saying the ENECO Tour or (to a lesser extent) Qatar... How can those races be 'over-rated'? Noone rates them in the first place.

Poland at least has produced some, undeserved, excitement as the 'Who Gets 9 Riders in the Worlds Tour.'

I guess. I must rank everything in terms of "best". History and tradition can play a small part in "best".

But, MSR is a monument, it's "top 5", but there are a dozen races more interesting than it.

maybe eneco and overrated isn't the right combination.
I think it's more of a disappointment, as it could be potentially so much better, and one of the most epic races of the season.

It does own races like TDU, you are right.

Tour of Belgium is better then Eneco, so yeah.
