Not doing a bad job for a ***. Obviously somebody with an IQ higher than 75 would be better though in his job. I read of some the CN interview's and felt sorry for him.

Outside of Europe he is doing great for cycling in our countries. The sport has gained a higher profile and top races are getting out of Europe. Pat has also been great for other than French speaking nations and the power bas is distributing across the globe. If you think this is the old boys club then you have just come to the sport or have short memories. The cycling world has benefited greatly from his leadership. I appreciate that he is less popular in Europe as many believe they are the truly entitled ones that should not be affected by globalization. Giro/tour of California as being 1 example.

Is there much left to "rape and pillage" in Europe? Maybe that's why "he is doing great for cycling in our countries" In my opinion the UCI is rapidly becoming as laughable as Mr Blatter's FIFA

It's the UCI and it finicky rules and laws created way back when. Pat can only work by these rules and when he wishes to change them he gets hump from the froggys...

So we see what side of the fence you sit on.

The problem with being the big shark in the aquarium is you might not notice all the little sharks are starting to school and getting bigger too.

Change is the only thing that sometimes gets us to scrape the barnacles off the hull. Professional cycling has changed a lot. At 1 time it was second fiddle to the amateurs. The UCI started paying a lot more attention to professional cycling after pros were allowed into the Olympics.

Then there were the Americans and they screwed up the wage system. Can you believe that cyclists can actually live on a riders salary? Tour winners! OMG not another American!! Bike Sponsors two more big American mega bike sponsors!!! A Canadian bike voted the best on this web site ARRRRGGH!!!!

Since most of humanity lives outside Europe I would think it is obvious that the power is shifting but the net result might be that cycling becomes a world sport, maybe even like Football (not the American kind) Maybe at the expense of some European races but how can you complain about all the good things too. More professional cyclists, more races and at higher calibre, better living conditions for riders, Maybe even better races in Europe too. You might remember the year Pat was elected the number 2 candidate was from Malaysia. I can hardly even imagine the change with him as president. BTW Malaysia has advanced greatly as a result of UCI policies and are a legitimate Track country with eyes on the road.
Ok I am a minority report if the rhetoric about Pat is representative of majority views but I like him, I find him to be sane and logical most of the time and Yes I have met him twice.

FIFA are a total shambles. Is there a more dysfunctional organization anywhere? UCI are getting there though - give them time.

So you say that hes good for non French speaking nations, and cite as your example him persecuting an italian race. Hes actually very nice to the Tour, claiming it is so prestigious that it should have more racing days than the rest.

And theres more to the outside world than America/ Australia. What has Pat ever done for South America Asia or Africa??? If you want to keep talking about a "globe" and a rest of the world, answer that question.

The Globalization of the sport is great (which is a separate issue)- but McQuaid should have nothing to do with the sport.

His brother Darach sold USPS team issue bikes on eBay and Darachs company is involved with the bid for Richmond in 2015 - you can book your tickets.

His son Andrew is a riders Agent to many WorldTour riders.
Plenty of other relatives have jobs associated with the sport.

Pat himself was banned by the IOC from ever taking part in the Olympics and yet is welcomed with open arm's to their 'old boys club'.

Even his election to the UCI was shrouded in controversy - he had already moved to Switzerland before his election and Verbruggen mailed the 42 electoral delegates (against UCI rules) asking them to support McQuaids candidacy.

Taking 'donations' from riders, favoritism for riders and teams.

And, yes I have met him on numerous occasions - and he is not as stupid as he is often portrayed, which (IMO) makes him more despicable.

Well said. My best friend was a very very prominent rider in Ireland in the 80's and 90's when the McQuaid Dynasty were probably at their most influential and if you weren't inside you were most certainly outside!

Maybe he's not as thick as he appears but the destruction of the endurance track cycling programme in major events is enough for me to suggest he knows virtually nothing on cycle racing.

Second hand car/bike dealer at best not head of the UCI.
