Interview released today between Matt Seaton and Paul Kimmage

Very interesting read.

Interesting that he's clearly very concerned with Sky, doesn't trust Brailsford, but seems to have a fair amount of time for Vaughters and Millar.

Also note he seems to agree with an argument I made a while back (and was mocked for), that there was something of a step change in the French teams post Festina, and that MPCC seems to be doing some good.

At my command....

The bottom line -- and I wrote this about [David] Brailsford -- I asked him: "Is there a difference between doing the right thing or being seen to do the right thing?" And with Brailsford, in my view, it's all about being seen to do the right thing.

In-fucking-deed.

bring on board a forensic accountant to examine the UCI books, but also outside of that McQuaid and Verbruggen's finances.

Both Pat and Hein must be absolutely loaded with money skimming Pro Cycling budgets.

World Cycling Productions is an even better method of skimming and the UCI teams put up most of the money for that operation.

 to the part in bold

what he says about brailsford and "being seen to do the right thing" applies in an identical way to Garmin/Vaughters/Millar.

It may to you. It doesn't seem to to Kimmage.

But it's not all about Lance. If it were about Lance, I wouldn't have been in London yesterday [at Change Cycling Now]; the UCI wouldn't have been trying to take me to court, because they understood -- and this is the thing about the interview with Floyd that I only understood after that interview -- Lance wasn't the problem. It was the people who had facilitated and enabled him to do what he'd gotten away with for so long that was the problem. It doesn't finish with Lance. If we thought that it did, it would happen again.

In the same way we thought Festina should have been an end of it, there would be a new era, and there would be so-called lines in the sand drawn, but within six months somebody else would come along -- and as we saw with Contador, whose positive wasn't announced for six weeks; the UCI sat on it for six weeks and only came out with it when German TV found out about it -- and it's going to happen again. So, it doesn't end with Lance.

Interesting response about LA.

From the Kimmage interview.

Kimmage: Then there's UCI governance. Item one for all of us would be the removal of Verbruggen. During this process of the independent commissioners looking at the sport, McQuaid and Verbruggen should step down for that period. Ultimately, they should be removed from the sport, because I don't believe the sport can move on with the same guys in charge. They need to be held to account for that.

The removal of Verbruggen? How can a person step down or be removed from a position he was not elected to nor is provided for in the UCI constitution?

This should be a strong point of the UCIIC's enquiry, report and recommendations into UCI governance.

Kimmage: They don't know very much about cycling and they've been given these terms of reference, which I hope are not fixed in stone, so that when it's suggested to them that they need to be broadened, they can be broadened, to include things like the Tour of Switzerland ‘positive’, and to bring on board a forensic accountant to examine the UCI books, but also outside of that McQuaid and Verbruggen's finances. If they can address those issues, I'll be very, very happy with the commission.

Here, here. Let's hope the terms of reference can be broadened to include TofS "positive" and McQuaid & Verbruggen's personal finances.

McQuaid dithered over Armstrong donations. Went down from $125,000 to $100,000. But both Armstrong and Verbruggen earlier had claimed the amounts were huge and (per Verbruggen) paid in cash.

May as well also look at the $3m set aside in Japan and not included in UCI's records for the keiren bribe.

I think he's spot on.

What he's saying is that LA was just the guy there at the time who realised that the UCI weren't really that interested in keeping cycling clean; they were more interested in the next story to promote cycling & make more money for the UCI.

So 'Cancer Survivor makes miraculous recovery & Wins TdF', was just what they wanted, & LA realised that minor matters like positive tests & dodgy doctors could, & would, be forgiven by the UCI, if he gave them the kind of stories they wanted.

classy PK, will Unibomber make an offer?

PK: I was asked at a Q&A in Limerick, "what if Lance Armstrong came to you and asked if I wanted to do the tell-all book with him?" Would I do it? And I said I would not do it. If you gave me me a million pounds, I would not do it.

Here's my bottom line.

In the autumn of 1993, Greg LeMond and his wife, Kathy, were sitting at home in the suburbs of Minneapolis, when they received a visit from Linda Mooneyham, the three-times Tour de France winner has recalled. Her 21-year-old son, Lance Armstrong, had just become the world champion and she had travelled from her home in Texas for advice.

"What does he do now?" she asked. "What does he do with his money?"

"Well, let him find an agent – a good one with an attorney," LeMond replied. "And one word of advice – just be his mom."

They sat on the porch for a while and then moved inside to the kitchen. Linda had something else on her mind: "How do I make him less of an *******. He doesn't care about anyone."

"Well," LeMond replied. "I can't help you there."

I think Kimmage is encouraging an auction. Maybe Lance ought to make an offer of two million pounds.

But seriously, I'm sure Sally Jenkins is ready willing and able to commence work on the next work of fiction from Lance Armstrong.

Well Linda, hopefully the Feds can help. ;)

I wonder did the millions help Linda get over her son being a *******.

Bet it hurts now!

When Paul cuts, he cuts deep.

The one thing Lance relied upon, the one basic affection that mattered to him, was his mother - so Paul tells Lance, "Oh, yeah, BTW, your mother thinks your a self centred a$$hole"

true or not (i think it is) one lesson you must, must learn.

Dont f*ck with Paul Kimmage.
