So Gilbert has very good form and everyone and his uncle on here has jumped on a bandwagon of him wining RVV

For me Stybar,Terpstra and Boonen have better pedigree and a better chance ...Not the Gilbert has no chance just he is not the best option at QSF

Quickstep need to get their thinking hats on ....they need to throw the whole team at GVA and Sagan ...attack and counter attack ...only by working together do they beat either of these two riders

Have Terpstra and Stybar attack, but leave Gilbert to go with GVA and Sagan. Terpstra and Stybar don't have as much of a chance. Boonen has admitted it will be very hard for him to follow the attacks on the bergs.

I don't quite understand why you would say that based on the past few weeks. Gilbert seems like the only Quickstep rider capable of beating Sagan and GVA head on. Not that Stybar and Terpstra don't have a chance but Gilbert is obviously stronger at the moment imo.

Terpstra and Boonen will both be focusing on Roubaix, which is smart since they're much, much better suited for it.

Well, Terpstra has been climbing much better this year than ever before, so if there's ever a year for him to do well in Flanders, it's this one.

He looks like hes gotten some weight in order to fight for these cobbles classics; I dont think hell be an important factor in Ardennes, except maybe Amstel.
I think he is the leader for Amstel. He is definitely a helper for Alaphilippe/Martin in Fleche Wallone. In Liege, I think he will have a free role but Alaphilippe/Martin are the leaders.

I think Gilbert has a better chance winning Paris-Roubaix than Fleche Wallone these days.

Is he heavier? But at this point, I also do think the long and hard slog races favours him more, he has amazing endurance and can just go on and on it seems, ride the race from the front. He is really impressive at that.

However winning either of those 2 races would be highly surprising, we all know that. Wouldn't be surprised to see him attacking on the Cherave, I think thats the name, before Mur. However, if he indeed is at 2011-levels (which basically should be impossible and most likely isn't the case, but..) and and the Mur is race conservatively, then why not?

I just looked up his 2011 season. He won in 16 out of 20 events in a sequence. Won in 9 out of 9 events in a row. Has any rider ever had a streak like that?

Every race he entered in order, if starting with Algarve:

Won a stage in Volta a Algarve,
43rd - Omloop Het News
1st - Strade Bianche
Won a stage in Tirreno-Adriatico
3rd - Milan San Remo
36th - Gent Wevelgem
9th - Ronde van Vlandren
1st - De Brabantse Pijl
1st - Amstel Gold
1st - Fleche Wallone
1st - LBL
GC and 1 stage of the 2.HC Tour of Belgium
GC and 1 stage of Ster Zlm Toer - Gp Jan Van Heeswijk (2.1)
1st - National Championships
Won a stage of the TDF
1st - San Sebastian
1 stage and 2nd overall in Eneco Tour
1st - Belgium TT champs
57th - GP Ouest France
1st - Quebec
3rd - Montreal
1st - GP de Wallonie

That really was the best year a cyclist had in the modern era.. He destroyed every race. I remember David Millar saying that Gilbert told everyone where he'll attack in that Eneco stage he won, but he was just too strong. Nobody matched him.
His win in San Sebastian was impressive. Also, his Amstel performance and the Fleche record(at the time) were incredible.
Still pissed that he didn't hang on after Boosberg in De Ronde. Also, Pozzato going like a mad man after him in San Remo...

A great season, yes. However, how can it be the most lauded season in recent times when the sport has 6 one day monuments (including WCRR) and Gilbert won only 1?

Maybe I under rate him a little, though not as much as the Australian cycling media. Watching the Ronde now, and they are only talking about Boonen as a threat for victory for Quick-Step :D
