Money, and bosses that are not borderline retards :p

**** yeh Owners !!

FFS I missed that as a choice.

Maybe a sporting MOD could please add 'Good Owners' or something like that as another option?

Thankyou in advance :)

In advance of criticism, I know that some options may be construed in the context of a Venn diagram, where one element completely dominates other options in their entirety. (Can't explain that very well)

But lets be a little broad minded here and not assume that the cash aspect neccesarily gives you everything in a bag as some teams have discovered in this years TDF.

Thanks :)

It was Vino Attacks Everyone who gave me the idea for this poll as 'The' 'Vino' looks as if he could become a fantastic DS? Maybe the best ever ;) ?

I know that he has a black history and I usually consign the likes to the dustbin of eternal disgrace but it seems to me that Vino has given the Astana team a renaissance it needed after it looked liked it was on its last legs a couple of years ago.

I don't think that Astana has been the beneficiary of a huge influx of cash recently but they have made some great strategic choices and are now arguably back at the top.

I voted for a good DS and depth of squad.

Done. Took out the money for you too. Edit: and added crazy fans. Poll good?

I'd say the top 2 reasons are having the best riders and a very good DS. Having good team unity another big one IMO. And best machine the least important factor.

Jeez I hope so now!

Thanks again :)

From the poll: best riders and training methods.

Of course to have the best riders you need money and if you have that money then you will have the best riders which means you will have depth in your team and to get the best training/method you need coaches and a fantastic DS and machines which also involves money and to have loads of money means you need good sponsors/owners and to have the best most dedicated sponsor/owner they need to be a crazy fan and if everyone is crazy about cycling then there will be happiness and well being amongst the entire team and then they will be on the road to success.

People is everything, leadership and rider talent.

i voted DS and best riders. But the option are hard to separate, but i picked best riders over depth of squad because after all only one rider can finish first and even without having the best team, the best riders often get's results anyway.

I think it's important to keep in mind that just because a DS have done great work with one group of riders, that doesn't mean he'll be as good with a different group of equal talent. Both the role of the stars of the squad(sprinters, GC, Puncheur etc.) come into play as well as different personality traits(both those of the riders and the DS).

Having a great squad of riders that can support a leader and also using the correct training and diet to get the best out of those riders.

Of course this is also funded by having a lot of money to spend on these things.
