Discussion, photos, and "results" of all things Post Tour Crit. One such "result" :p
Mark Cavendish (HTC-Highroad) added the Profronde van Stiphout to his name on Tuesday. The British super sprinter was too fast for Luxembourg's Andy and Frank Schleck who had to settle for the minor positions.

The three riders joined, Ivan Basso, Laurens Ten Dam, Johnny Hoogerland and Thomas Dekker among others at the start in Stiphout.

Bauke Mollema finished fourth, while Pim Ligthart of the Vacansoleil DCM team won the sprint of the chasing group.
Andy's never gonna get on the Top Step, and how nice of TGBM to allow 3 other men to have the podium :p!

Do you even like them? Been to any?

Do the riders like them?

Cav in a breakaway with the Schleck :D. Pure theatre. Bet it looks good though.

It's a show. The podium is being decided before the race, but they will ride hard and make it fun to watch.

I consider going to Wateringen tomorrow as it's just a 20 minute drive for me. Only Cavendish as big foreign name, but I guess I will enjoy myself.

I've done the Criterium of Herentals two years as a VIP, but respectfully declined this year.

I myself wasn't too fond of watching the "spectacle". It's a pretty silly and predictable sight (regionals and the most expensive riders have a great chance of winning). These races are totally rigged, which is only acceptable because of the small otherwise dangerous circuits. Food was always good though.

From what I understand riders just ride them for the money, kind of like a deal with the devil. These races aren't the perfect preparation for San Sebastian for instance.

A VIP  I want! I've been to Aalst in 2009 as a not VIP and it was great imo :) we got to the place where everyone got dressed/undressed except for HTC so we got to see all the big names :) except for Cav :(

I went to the Sint Niklaas criterium last year. I started a thread on the subject of Post-Tour crits back then.

It was great to get up close to the riders and the small circuit meant that they passed by I think about 27 times with less than 10 minutes between each pass.

When you think of it in that way, the "false competition" makes more sense. They're there to earn some brass and you to see them, take photos and if you're lucky, say hi.

So of course the racing element is not important, but since the guys are famous cyclists rather than famous singers or plumbers, you have to have them ride around a bit. :)

Yeah, Oiljstenaars are crazy :D

For non-Belgians, this is the name people from Aalst colloquially give themselves in their own local and (hideous/unintelligible/charming - delete as appropriate) dialect, since they pronounce and often write "Aalst" as "Oiljst" (assuming El P's spelling is correct, I wouldn't know myself).

Well, born there, don't live there anymore.

I don't live anywhere near Aalst, but coincidentally am a fan of Den Eendracht.

Eendracht Vooruit!

Well, Oiljsteneer would be more correct I presume. And with more correct, I mean grammatically wrong :D

Just looked at the criterium "results", and every country's crit is won by its favourite countrymen or men of the moment (e.g. Schleck, Eisel, Greipel, Vanendert, Hoogerland, Roy), except NORWAY, where Gilbert has to win and Hushovd settle for 3rd.

What's up with that?!
