Pro cyclists and beards/facial hair

I yet to see anyone in a pro peloton wearing beards or facial hair ?

why don't the pros have or keep beards / facial hair ?

Laurens ten dam has been riding around with a lot of facial hair not so long ago. And think about david zabriskie and his famous moustache he had. cyclists usually shave evrything off so facial hair would be one off the first things to go.

Andrea Tafi had a goatee when he won Paris-Tours in 2000.
Ditto Fabio Baldato when he was 3rd at Milan-San Remo in 2000 or 2001.
As did Marco Pantani when he won the tour and in his later racing days.
Urs Freuler had a moustache during his racing days in the 1980s.
Kevin Costner sported some facial hair in "American Flyers".
Eugene Christophe had a moustache.
So did Maurice Garin, but it was much more common amongst cyclists in the early 20th century.
