Questions on maintenance of DT240s

First off, how the hell do people detach the freehub body by hand on one of these hubs? I had to clamp it in an axle vice and use both hands to free it.

Second, is it ok to use something like Phil Wood grease? I know DT has their own grease but is this necessary?

Is spinning the hub by hand good enough to test the bearings? Anything else I should do?

Finally, just grease all surfaces of the toothed ring?

Use oil, not grease on the toothed discs/ring. Yep, turn the axle, of it feels nice, leave alone. Same for the 2 bearings in the FH body. Wee bit of grease on the axle and small spacer that goes around the axle, but oil on the discs(I use Mobil One auto oil, doesn't get thick when cold, fairly tenacious, cheap).

I use a axle vice to get the axle end off, then a back and forth by hand to get the FH body off.

Super, thanks. I use synthetic motor oil in my car so I always have a spare quart.
