5 or 6/10. Copy what I wrote in the rumour thread:

+ A cobblestone stage even if the pavees are far from stage finish.
+ Several uphill finishes
+ Bonus seconds

- Where is the TT kms?
--- Most of the mountain stages are really not very good. No queen stage.

There have been worse versions. 2008 and 2009 was worse. Same with 2012.

How was 2008 worse????

Being in the US I only caught the the show from Nibali onwards and have been trying to make sense of the course for the last 20 minutes. I gave it a 4 which might be generous. Was this course created so the French could have a shot at glory? It seems very unbalanced IMO, maybe I should have given it a 3!

3/10. Mainly because of cobbles and a couple of good punchy finishes. Mountain stages seem very underwhelming. I don't mind short ones as they can encourage attacking riding, but surely a couple of long mountain stages are needed too.

Basically, it is more Spanish style than French. Perfect for Purito and Valverde, Aru could get a shot instead of Nibali and Majka instead of Pistolero. AC can destroy them anyway doing "Fuente De" once more. No real chances for Quintana, Nibali and Froome. French riders can't even reach podium place imo...

This is not like a normal route, where you can balance the good stages with the bad stages. I like a cobbled stage. I like Mende, I would even like the Arrette PSM stage if we had proper mountain stages after.

But the whole idea of putting a cobbled stage (and 7 other stages) before a TTT completely sucks. Did anybody see what happened to Katusha in the Giro? 3 men out in the first week. What if that happens to Tinkoff or Astana or AG2R? Not fair.

13km of ITT is completely nuts.

These two points alone make it impossible to make a proper GT.

I hate the mountain stages as a collective. This is a horrible, horrible route.

I've changed my mind. 5/10 at most. Possibly 4/10.

Most of the mountain stages are crap. Arette-Pierre St.Martin is the only climb on the stage. And why the hell to they leave out Latrape and Agnes on the Beille stage. The stage to Pra Loup could also been designed much, much better.

2/10

With 13km of ITT I cannot give it more.

I don't understand the point of TTT so late in the race. What is the point of uphill finish in TTT? Does it mean GC contenders will have to realy on sprinters ability to climb? It would have definetly been a good terrain for ITT.

Mountain stages are fine. I don't mind La Pierre Saint Martin as a single climb stage because of next two days in Pyrenees. Pra Loup stage looks lame as they will climb only last 5km of it. Stage to Saint Jean De Maurienne has nice and steep climb before the finish. La Touissuire is OK considering that it is a third stage in the mountains in a row.

It looks this TDF has 3 HC finishes (La Pierre, Beille, Alpe d' Huez), one 1st cat finish (La Toussuire) and two 2nd cat. finishes (Cauterets, Pra Loup) with high mountains. In addition to that it has three other finishes at small climbs and likely decent finish in Gap. However, I find only three proper mountain stages (Beille, Toussuire, Huez) in total...
