If Giro d'Italia maybe in the future reduced its length or distance so Tour riders could ride it without risking their Tour chances, things might look different.

Not really. You then get a less exciting Giro won by basically the same people who would win it without the change. Simply because those big Tour riders won't be even trying to make it look like they are making an effort. We all know how Cancellara and Andy rode California last year. Having those big names won't do anything for the casual fans if you only ever see them when they get dropped on every mountain.

probably the most stupid thing i have ever heard on this forum. and keep in mind we have ACF posting everyday.

the GIRO is IL GIRO d'Italia and like liberty said will never be threatened by any race. unless the tour is changed to may no other race will take the spot light of the giro. and no race in may will ever have a stronger field then the giro for the simple fact that the giro field is pretty much on the same level as the tour( only contador and shleck could have won last year giro imo, i doubt menchov and samu would have had a chance) and none of those guys is racing to win in may.

No. No, no, no, no, no. And yes, Menchov and Samu would have had a chance. A very big chance.

I think Samu yes. Menchov no. They had a grand total of like 20k tt in there, not enough for Menchov and i dont think he would have held Basso or Scarponi in the mountains. Even with him Rabo would have lost time in the ttt.

Samu yes He would have lost about 1 min 30 in the ttt but would have made up that and then some on the Mortirolo descent alone.
THis would have been a great gt for him. At the TDF he showed he was the best of the rest in the mountains, even took time on Menchov with a broken wrist on the Tourmalet, so i think he could have at least matched Basso in the mountains. And most importantly they had 2 descents contested. Samu could have easily followed Vino on the Grappa descent as well. Hes also a great classics rider so maybe would have challenged on Strade Bianchi stage.

Also Purito maybe, if he had peaked for it. And Anton though he didnt ride the TOur.

And yes  Gesink maybe as well, probably for a podium.

Menchov is underrated as a climber. But when he doesn't have it, he completely lets go, which apparently leads some people to believe that he's not a world class climber. He's certainly no worse than Nibali, who according to some could have won the Giro if he didn't have to "work" for Basso, but of course Menchov's descending skills are slightly less impressive. And come on, what had Scarponi done in GTs before this Giro? Nothing.

BTW, in last year's Giro TTT Menchov actually won time on most of his rivals for the podium.

Straight ten...i thought it may be difficult to better the 2010 Corsa Rosa but they have, two tough stretches of Strade Bianche, some brilliant mountains and superb combinations of mountains...roll on may!!

My understanding from the "false flat" description of the new finish is that it will be on the road to Kaiser-Franz-Josephs-Höhe and not the pass itself with the finish somewhere near Glocknerhaus.

The climb starts on the bottom left of the picture and takes a left at 9b

Oh, fair enough. Not a very good addition, then.

it's a logical decision.igor anton for the overall win at il giro.can't wait.

Kreuziger, Anton, Riccò and Nibali :D

With the announcement of ProTeams 2011, the following 20 teams should be guaranteed an invitation (If Zomegnan accepts the WorldTour rules):

AG2R
Garmin-Cervélo
Katusha
Lampre-ISD
Omega Pharma-Lotto
Quick Step Cycling Team
Rabobank Cycling Team
Saxo Bank SunGard
Sky ProCycling
Team RadioShack
BMC Racing Team
Euskaltel-Euskadi
HTC-Highroad
Liquigas-Cannondale
Luxembourg Pro Cycling Project
Movistar Team
Pro Team Astana
Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team

The last spots will probably go to Team Geox and Colnago - CSF Inox.
