Removing KMC missing link

Replaced my 10 speed chain today and finally put on a missing link. I was surprised how much effort it took to lock the link. Previously, I had used the SRAM link on 9 speed chains which seemed much easier to engage/disengage.

Was there something I was doing wrong? And will I need a tool (park tool makes one) to help disengage that link if I decide to remove the chain?

You should consider that a good thing, the last thing you want is the link to pop open under riding conditions. Some of the new KMC missing links are meant to be used once (not that I don't use it more than once) and have a locking feature that makes it harder than normal to remove and of course install. I know the 11speed links I have are that way but not sure if the 10speed versions have gone to that method as well? Read the info on it.

Needle nose pliers. If you line them up correctly they come off easy, otherwise they can be a challenge

Install it partially, make sure link is on top portion of chain(where the chain runs from cogset to crank-upper portion of chain) and smack the pedal to lock and yes, best way is to use the Park tool to disconnect.
