Wikipedia had DC listed at 5'6.5". That must be exaggerated. Dude has the smallest head tube in the peloton and the Swiss podium girls look a good foot taller than him and they cant find a yellow jersey to fit . He has to be a bagel short of 120lbs as well.

And is Cav really 5'9"?

1.69m is 5 feet 6.5 inches. And if Cav is 5 feet 9 then I will be suprised. I am 5 feet 7 and when I saw Cav at a race he did not look any taller than me.

5'8 is more like 174 and 5'9 is more like 177 cm; I know because I am 177cm, and I live in the u.s.

For some reason he looks shorter and stockier than that. His quads and calves are those of a sprinter almost. Compare him to Contador who I believe is an inch taller but of similar weight and Cunego looks much beefier (in the legs).

If you are going to convert figures please do it properly. Cunego is my height. Five feet eight inches (5'8") converted to metric measurements from imperial is 173cm. This is wrong because Cunego has long been reported at 169cm. Cunego is approximately five feet seven inches (5'7"). Why? Because the centimetres measurement you gave was correct, the conversion from metric to imperial is incorrect, meaning you listed him in imperial as a whole one and a half inches taller than he is. You also gave an lopsided weight measurement. You listed his weight correct in kilograms (widely circulated to be 59-60kg) and colossally screwed up his pounds measurement. One pound is 450 grams. One kilogram is 1000 grams. Do the math dude or better yet I will do it for you. He is a bit over 130 pounds. I'm the same height at my fittest but weigh 65 kg, which is 145 pounds. The weight you gave for Cunego in pounds would make him around 69-70kg when converted correctly (or his weight plus his gear and bike). It makes a big difference. Your metric measurements are correct, they have been his reported measurements for some time. The imperial conversions (or perhaps you just copied them) are however wrong. The weight is way off.

For the record:

One inch equals 2.54 centimetres. One foot is 30 centimetres approximated, but in reality it is a bit more. This is why 6 foot is not 180cm but in fact, 183cm. People don't like working in decimal points so they estimate. However over large groupings when added together the smaller precise measurements count a great deal.

So how do you do it in your head. Like terms/groups, learn them and simply divide or multiply. 20 pounds equals 9 kilograms exactly. Kilograms can be muliplied by 0.45 to give the exact pound reading. Reverse isn't as easy but it's roughly divided by 2.2. Imperial measurements are less precise and the metric system is far superior. Lots of people on the Biggest Loser USA are getting screwed royally because instead of 10ths of a kilogram being used (100 ) grams versus the pounds (450 grams). 4.5 kilograms equals 10 pounds. Pretty easy to figure out what you lifting in a gym isn't it! (Gyms mostly have weights that use one or the other metric or imperial so you can now convert easily on the fly in your head). Thank me later.

Kms to miles is easy as well. Rough estimate, divide the kilometres by 8 and multiply by 5 for an almost exact answer. Miles you divide by 5 and multiply by 8 to convert to km's.

Note: You corrected yourself. All is good Ryo. To the guy stating 5 feet 9 inches is 177cm use my numbers. One inch equals 2.54cm. How many inches are in five feet 9 inches? 5 times 12 plus 9 (5x12+9) or 69. Mulitply 69 by 2.54 and you get 175.26cm. Nice try dude, but your wrong as well. 5'9" has always been approx 175cm for a very long time, coincidentally it is Contadors height. 177cm is almost 5'10", aka, LA's height. All is forgiven, your American. I had the benefit of growing up in a country that uses a superior measurement system in it's education system and the benefit of an accounting background that taught me about all the measurement systems used in society, meaning I know how to convert easily (then again I knew how to do this before uni) and I can do math in my head on the fly far easier than the next person.

Remember grouping in like terms? Four inches is approx 10 centimetres. 5'8" is really 172.5cm but most modelling businesses round it up to 173cm. As I said, people don't like dealing in decimal points, to their own detriment. Sorry for the lecture, be greatful I didn't go into ounces.

just two points on a rider's height:

for taller riders
-the taller the rider-the longer the legs-the better leverage.
on the negative side-large body frames create loads of drag.

for smaller riders
the main obstacle is the TT being affected by the length of the legs & leverage. on the flip side- those guys thrive in the mountains
