I can't tell for sure, but that bike "Captain Morgan" is riding sure looks like it has a big "S" on the head tube....

And a side question, why do some bike companies only offer a 3 or 5 year frame warranty and others offer a life time warranty of their carbon frames?

It's a choice you make as a (re)seller. It's more a marketing decision than a legal/financial one. The 3-5 year window is a safe bet financially. There may be some warranty claims but after the last warrantied year, the product won't haunt your bottom line.

Read those warranties! Some of them set up lottery-like conditions to meet in order for warranty service to kick in. Others don't. I'm assuming that there is actual follow-through on a warranty too. That's been known to happen more than once.

Is Ritte really doing anything different then every other bike company? I like that they poke fun at the sometimes absurd claims and marketing in the industry. Good to see some levity for a change. With some companies you would think they are going to the moon on the back of Chinese prison labor.

They aren't doing anything different than the many OEM resellers. Like I said earlier, they are good sticker designers. Some fools may be buying, but they are the ones that look like idiots.

But the problems started with generalized references to their designing their product and technical novelty. The carbon OEM and Russ Denny are designing and building. That's hard, precise work. Ritte resells. Very big difference.

You should have held out for the Ritte body spray.

Ever notice that Ritte and Rapha both start with the letter R? Coincidence? I don't think so.

wow, great work detective... look up who won the 1919 RVV, I think that was a little before Rapha's time

@ briztoon - the Bosberg rides very nice, the extra bit of wheelbase makes it descend better than most bikes, making it not so much a crit bike, but good for long miles, and it will get you laid at least once

I am going to go way out on a limb and guess that none of the guys selling frames under his name were alive back in 1919...or even 1949. I know it's a long shot but it's one I am willing to take. So we have Rapha, a bunch of image merchants using a phony link to nostalgic cycling to sell overpriced goods, and Ritte, a bunch of image merchants using a phony link to Belgium to sell overpriced goods. Get the link now, Sherlock?

While you are admiring your thread Brodeal you might want to mix in some "mid thread stretching"

I don't see how anyone can say that Ritte has the slightest bit of aesthetic taste, or any sense at all of what a beautiful bike looks like. Here's the quote from the Wired piece that says it all: "He especially loved the early monocoque Kestrels, which are beautiful to behold."

Jesus Lord, but those early Kestrels were some of the ugliest bikes ever made. The looked like a tricycle with elephantiasis. I worked in a store that sold them (to triathletes, of course). No self-respecting road racer would be seen in public on one of those monstrosities. I had a girlfriend who was given one by the store that sponsored her. She was pi$$ed. You can't turn down a free bike, but one of those kestrels? That's insulting.

wow adding significance and context to a quote in a review to draw moral, ethical, and philosophical qualities and meaning i presume. I am sure they thank you for the time you put into this. its quite flattering to be critiqued like this is 21 century art and literature

I don't know what got your panties all bunched up, but I just looked at the article which started this thread, and which is mainly about Ritte's great sense of style and made a comment. Look at the "Bikes Are Getting Uglier" thread a few lines down. You'll find your Kestrel there. It's the AMC Pacer of bikes.

You seem to be a little sensitive on the topic. Have other kids in the playground been picking on you?

Oh--and speaking as someone who is married to an asian woman, the way your comment implies they're something to be purchased is a little on the vile side. You want want to give a little thought to that, in terms of its moral, ethical and philosophical implications. Just sayin'

Some have confidence in their product, some don't. Pinarello offers a 2 year warranty on a $6800 frameset (Dogma2 electronic-ready).

That tells you a bit about the company and the "workmanship".

Trek has a lifetime warranty, best frame in the world? ;-) (sorry, couldn't resist).

And do they always honor that lifetime warranty? Nope. Plus, well, it's a Trek. Sorry, you left that one hanging out there like a wet noodle dangling in the breeze. :D
