Saxo - what to do for TdF (minus AC)...

With the two CN articles - Rolf Sorensen's comments, and Porte's comments - regarding Saxo priorites at the TdF minus Contador (should his ban be applied when the dust settles), which way would you go if you were Riis?

Do you try to replace Contador with Porte or another rider and go for gold, or
Do you attempt to go for the (a-hem) minor jerseys such as KoM with CA Sorensen or Noval, or
Try to pick up stage wins for sponsor exposure??
Or maybe something else again??

Well, they sure can't expect Porte to be a viable Tour contender. Not yet, at least. He got 7th in the Giro with a 12 minutes bonus, that doesn't really translate to immediate Tour success. No matter what the Sydney Morning Herald would like to believe.

Throw everything behind JJ Haedo and get me big CQ points.

hahahahha

I think that they are going for Menchov... SBS principal goal is Le Tour so they need a tour contender and Porte is not that one... is not even close..

They should leave Menchov alone so that he wins the Giro and Vuelta for my team.

Yeah sorry about that, but Menchov will love to battle for the tour now that Contador is gone.

I would not have thought that SaxoBank have the cash to buy out Den's contract.
Perhaps Riis can get his mate McQuaid to make up another, one off, new rule.

Saxo will have to send a right load of old rubbish to the Giro, in anycase.
I'll bet the RCS would be happy to dump them, in order to take both Geox and Colango.....

Interestingly, all but two online bookmakers have cut Menchovs odds for the tour to between 14/1 and 16/1

Richie Porte drifted from 100/1 a couple of days ago out to 200/1 now

Guess thats a response to the rumours.

Ya, the bookies probably think it's better to be safe than sorry.

it could be a good oportunity to try something diferent... a decent sprint preparation for JJ Haedo or try to win KOM with CA Sorensen.

Knowing Riis he wont do that unless he is forced to. How long has it been since Riis has been without a GC contender? Doesnt even come up in my mind.

lol, they have odds for richie porte. Who would waste their money on that? Seriously, you have a far better chance of winning money if you go out and spend $10 on 10 lottery tickets than you do by spending $10 on Richie Porte.

Your winnings will be greater too
:p

Of course, Menchov may have had a get out clause in his contract, which would make everything fairly straight-forward. We shall see.

Moves in betting are almost always due to people betting money, rather than rumours. Of course, the two aren't entirely unconnected.

Getting rid of the Schlecks, and spartacus, saves a lot of money. And I'm guessing Contador wont receive any salary during his ban. I don't know if it's enough though.

Menchov could have a get-out clause if the team didn't make ProTeam status/entry to the Tour who knows.

He DOES have that condition in his contract.

Why he hasn't used it already is beyond me.
