man did they get exposed today. voigt dropping fuglasang, gerdemann, monfort, pathetic and troublesome to say the leats don't you think?

Me likes.

Next mountainstage Basso should send his team to the front from early on, Szmyd on the second to last climb, Basso himself on the last climb. I think he will beat everyone doing it.

and who does Voigt ride for

I admit it was surprising to see them get dropped so soon but then they were getting dropped by the pace which Leopard were setting.

Contador's team wasn't any better. They didn't do **** and they still got dropped, at least LT have something to show for it. Liquigas seems to have the best mountain domestiques (only because they have Szmyd). Arguably Rolland was the best domestique today he looked amazing.

Except for Andy Schleck, Fränk Schleck and Evans.

I am not sure if the Leopard-helpers really are that weak in the mountains. The team rode a very high pace up the Tourmalet. Voigt hat a crazy great day... Propably Fränk and Andy felt strong enough, so Gerdemann et al took it easy on the final climb... We will see tomorrow, I guess. SaxoBank was really bad btw... those guys did not lead the field for one meter and nobody was able to stay up in the front group...

This was not expected to be a decisive mountain day. Under such circumstances, it makes sense to keep the team out of the red zone. Frank and Andy together are formidable when the critical selections are made. Team mountain strength appears over-rated. Just look at Radio Shack last year. . .

don't you think I know? they got exposed by their own (weaker) teammate, he was 3rd down in the mountain train and when voigt was done the group was stil 40+ riders

they didn't ride a hard pace on the tourmalet. there were still 40 guys on the top.

It had been three or four days since Ryo made an awful thread, glad things have been put right.

Well they got the Schlecklets through the flat stages while everyone else was eating sh*t. They seemed to manage ok on their own.

but that's canc's and o'grady's job. and no doubt those guys are prolly the best in the business to do that kind of job. but their mountain guys (monfort, gerdeman and fugslang) were sub par today. no doubt about it. fugslang was supposed to be their supper domestique and was dropped by canc. gerdeman and monfort were both dropped by jens.

so ya the part of the team that should be taking care of the mountains isn't all that good. contador reached the bottum of luz ardiden with all his mountains domestiques ofc they didn't set the pace because contador wasn't at his best but they were there and were only dropped a couple k into the climb by szmyd. and lets not forget that CAS was dropped at the same time as a guy that is in the top 10 of the GC(roche)

pfft....they did whatever work they could under their DS direction....thats what domestiques do! Unfortunately theres not a single cannibal, monster, badger, pelota or pirata for them to ride FOR...let alone a campionissimo, Mr. Chrono, zonzon, or bricklayer ... and the "big move" comes what, 3 k from the finish??!

I think since they banned testosterone, we've gradually wound up with no true stars and a peloton that has NO collective balls....

more than weakness-I notice a huge failure in tactics--how on earth they decided to burn all the troops before Luz Ardiden? the only guys who made the Tourmalet hard were Cance, O'Grady & Jens- the rest barely helped & quickly faded....... now if they're going to do this fiasco on the Galibier, I foresee big trouble for the Schlecks......

The only failure in tactics if it can be described as such is not starting to attack much earlier.

Voigt did the right thing in making the Tourmalet hard and it was a pretty fast time. I doubt that Schlecks are going to be isolated before the final climb at any point in this Tour.

voigt didn't make the tourmalet hard, 40 guys were in his wheel and that's way too many for such a steep and long climb. remember some years ago voigt went all out and maybe 10/15 guys were in his wheel. it says a lot when guys like ten dam and trofimov can attack in the final of the tourmalet

Why waste all your domestiques in one stage? They fall back to do what Voigt did today tomorrow. You don't use them all up in one stage.

While he didn't whittle down the peloton that much, I think that it had other effects. The pace on the Tourmalet was so high that the time that they reached the final climb many riders were riding at their max to just stay with the group. This was also the first day of real climbing in the whole tour, so the riders will be a bit fresher than on some of the later climbing days. We saw how quickly things fell apart once the attacks finally started coming.
