as in Red_Flanders, who is now a mod (even if his title hasn't changed yet).

Actually he is returning as a mod, having taken a time-out for a while.

Please welcome him back and we all thank him in advance!

Welcome! :D
Can't really say welcome back as I don't remember you from before.

And Susan, for a sec I thought this was gonna be a thread about you seeing red with someone who'd behaved extremely badly...

Hi all, I wanted to post my thoughts on how I'm going to be working moving forward.

I'm going to focus mainly on the clinic. I think it's a hugely important part of the site and it has the potential to be much better. It's my belief that if we can keep the conversation respectful or even nice, we can avoid a lot of the issues we've seen here, and cultivate an even greater place to discuss contentious and often difficult issues. This will be my focus as a moderator.

From the rules: "No insulting other members. This includes counter-insults ("he started it"). "

I don't yet have the ability to delete threads or comments, but when those abilities come online I will be actively policing threads, purging out disrespectful and antagonistic comments and if needed handing out sanctions. You should expect to see a lot of action early and as the tone changes, much less moderation from me. There aren't going to be a lot of specific warnings to individuals, but there will be general guidance to which I expect people to adhere. I assume you're all adults and hope you'll err on the side of respect for your fellow forumites.

I don't plan on giving a lot of explanation or justification, as that is the most time consuming part of the job. I believe that by focusing on tone and not content I can be fair, and people are going to have to trust that this is my goal. As a member I have opinions, as a moderator I have one agenda, to change the tone in the clinic.

I firmly believe that over time this place will get better and the need for moderation will diminish, as there are so many truly passionate and smart people here. I appreciate all your intelligence and your contributions.

Thanks!
