Shoes with varus wedge and the Q-factor

What is the reason why a shoe like the Specialized Body geometry S-Works has a built in varus wedge? I realized that the need for this might be debatable, such as Q-factor often is.

Which leads me to my next question: Is Q-factor related to the need for a varus wedge? Is there a possible need for this if the crank's Q-factor is too high or too low?

I need Valgus wedge to stop pattela tracking if you want more Q angle you get spacers between the crank and pedal.

If I use specialised I need 6 wedges to correct varus as normal i use 2

Go to http://www.bikefit.com/ if you need them you have to have them of you dont ride you must know if your forfoot is varus or valgus If you make a valgus forfoot varus you will throw the knee out and it will track. you will soon know about it.

brian7, thanks for your reply. I was hoping to hear more from others on this topic.

I think one thing I'm trying to determine is if there is a relationship between the use/need for wedges and and Q-factor? If not, is there a tendency for some people (fitters) to mistake which should be addressed and incorrectly change the wrong variable?

Regarding the bikefit site, I've been reading as many back articles as I can about this subject. Seems to be a wealth of information there.

No real relationship between the two, the varus/valgus wedges correct the alignment of your knee. Your knees could be aligned perfectly but your q-factor may be wrong, and alternatively your knees could be all over the place but your q-factor could be right.

You would need 3 I think, 1 (1.5mm) brings it back to neutral and then the two you need in your current shoes.
