Should Milan-San Remo 2013 be Cancelled?

I guess this is essentially what happens at level crossings, but it seems less than satisfactory...

I think the bigger issue was the claim that Boonen made of people abandoning, get a ride in the team car to the halfway point and then rejoining.
But not sure if that was just because the organisers had mixxed up numbers. They kept having the Van Summeran graphic up when Chavenal was in the break.

Boonen didn't say that many guys abandoned. He said that a lot of guys were dropped in the first part of the race, who could just join the second part. What I think that happened is, that the last 20-30k or so what the peloton was scattered all over and there were probably only a 100 guys really in the peloton when they stopped in Ovada. Due to the extreme circumstances no official really checked if all the guys reaal were all together when entereing the zone where all the busses were parked.
