sounds like sand inside my fork?

Haven't run into this one before and thought I would see whether anyone else had.

I holding a new Orbea Orca front fork over the weekend and it appeared structurally perfect fron the outside. As I was carrying it across the room, I picked it up by the carbon steerer and carried it with the dropouts pointing up. As I did that, I heard a sound that was like tiny grains of sand sliding down the legs of the fork. When I lowered the dropouts back down, I heard the sound again.

Nothing comes out of the fork and if it were on a bike instead of next to your ear there is no way you'd notice it.

The question of course is, is this remains from manufacture process or is it something more sinister.

If it were me I'd drill a hole in it and drain the junk out, that would drive me nuts. Or maybe take it in and have an MRI done on it.

All joking aside, I'd be interested to see what the manufacturer has to say about it. Maybe you can get a new fork sent to you.

Are there vent holes near the dropouts? If there are I'd try to work the sand or what ever might be in there out through those. I could imagine some manufacturing process leaving something in there not that its a good thing.

Time to call Orbea USA to figure that out.

Very interesting, could it possibly be loose resin from the curing process?

I'd speak to Orbea, skip the distributor.

Could be part of the molding process that's supposed to evacuate and someone didn't dump it out of the fork crown.
