According to the piece on Pendelton and Varnish being disqualified from the Team Sprint in London the judges are Soviet Commisars not cycling officials which are Commissaires.

A surprising lapse of knowledge for a Cycling-specific website.

Mind you it might explain the hard-line attitude towards the British and Chinese teams, they are lucky they didn't get shipped off to a Siberian Gulag! :eek:

Commissar is the traditional English translation for the French word Commissaire ... which is why English-speakers use it to describe Russian officials.

So, surprising lapse of linguistic knowledge from you.

Btw - what are you talking about, with "Soviet"? There is no Soviet any more.

Perhaps you mean Russian? Please don't insult them by calling them Soviets.
