Tough one to predict

This one is a bit hard to predict, because of the profile of the stage. I bet this one will be for someone like Davis, Pozzato or maybe a strong rider like Cancellara and Boasson Hagen to pull it off. But it might also be one for the sprinters.

My guess:

1.Boasson Hagen
2. Davis
3. Pozzato

Forgive me for these picks

1. Savoldelli
2. Samuel Sanchez
3. Mario Cipollini (*)

(*) A few days ago they were speaking of fast descenders on RAI and Cassani surprised everyone by saying Cipollini was an awesome descender. The problem was that given his typical time gap at the KOMs, no camera would be there to witness his descending skills...

Actually there are alot of very fast decenders among the non climbers in the peloton. Savoldelli was never the best decender in the world, he was only the best decender that could alos make it to the top of a mountain fast.

Alot of other sprinters for example are very fast decenders because of technical skills and ability to accelerate out of turns quickly. Robie McEwan is said to be very quick for example. Thor Hushovd showed during stage 17 of the Tour 2002 how fast he is on the downhills when he in a break on a though mountain stage and managed to finish 5th due to awesome riding in the downhills.

My guess for today will be:-

1. Petacchi
2. Davis
3. Farrar

Also in reading the 50 facts about the Giro feature, number 50 states that all winners of the Giro since 2000 except Contador are taking part yet Paolo Savoldelli retired at the end of last year so cannot be taking part.
