You can see Thomas' frustration with the team - Think he's also backing in Froome won't be in top shape for the TDF - He'll be with a new team in 2019.

He's been pretending to be fed up with the team for a couple of years now yet he keeps renewing his contract

Anyway, with the Froome/Wiggins backlash, I wonder how the reception on the European mainland for Team Sky will be in 2018? And with European mainland I mean France, since the rest of the mainland has been sucking up Anglo-Saxon fairytales since the Thatcher/Reagan era.

Mods / Admins.. where are you??

G is such a wasted talent. I'd be glad to see him in a leading role in another team.

He's won seven stage races and a classic.
And two Olympic gold medals. And earns (allegedly) over 2 million a year.

That's a lot of money for someone who can't ride a bike.

I think Oleg Tinkov said something like that during the Tour and Vuelta 2016 too ;)

Who are they sending to the Giro as the captain if Froome is out?

Thomas is targeting the Tour with the more gradual climbs, cobbles and windy conditions. It's perfect for him. And Bernal/Sivakov are still way too young.

I think Poels wants to be their Vuelta leader since the short, steep, punchy climbs suit him the best. One of the best riders out there on those. He was 6th last year even after doing a lot of work for Froome.

While Moscon is a super-talent, I don't think he can lead the team yet. At least not in a Grand Tour.

So who is the Giro leader in case of "Froomexit"? De La Cruz?

Maybe Sergio Henao? He has finished top 10 on gc when he rode the Giro (his first gt) for them in 2012.

Maybe! I think he is almost too versatile (!) to be a GT leader. I like it when his main focus is on the classics. Both Strade, Sanremo, Flanders, Amstel and Liege.

According to procyclingstats, he is targeting Tour of Flanders this year. Maybe he can stay with Sagan this year?

He is one of the few riders who could win all the classics even Roubaix if he gains some experience like Gilbert.

Kwiatkovski doesn't ride well enough on cobbles to be at the pointy end of Flanders Fields.
He was able to stay with Sagan in E3 and beat him and only lost Dwars door Vlaanderen because he did most of the work.

I don't know if he can win it but a top 10 shouldn't be any problem.

That's my very point - The cobbled sections at Dwaars are a different beast to E3 - And PR is also problematic.

At E3 he was struggling at the Kwaremont and then he attacked on an asphalt climb (the Karnemelkbeekstraat) so he wasn't among the very best on the cobbles even if he won the race.

Yeah, my point was that since he is competitive in E3 and Dwars, there must be a hidden cobbles rider in him.

I agree that PR is too difficult. It's for the pure specialist. I can't see him ever winning that. But the cobbles of Flanders are a more smooth.

Maybe he can do a Gilbert and win it later in his career? Liege is properly his main goal this year.

I definitely don't disagree that he can be a contender. Even on the flat cobbles in the 2014 Tour he was very impressive and with the best until he punctured so I think he has potential to win PR too but it will probably require a specific focus.
