The problem TVG currently has is inconsistency. He placed second in the Tour de Suisse prologue, but was like 15th or something in the US Time Trial Championships just a short time before.

I think the next 2 years are very important for him as a GC rider. He needs to show improvement before he gets to 24. For example, consistency in the Mountains before he can ride a good GC. In the Tour of Suisse and Cali he made mistakes by either following the wrong move and cracking or setting a high tempo to early and cracking. Hopefully with age comes with experience of these sorts of things out then he could top in a few years.

I'm not sure I can see the guy winninga GT in his career. we'll see.

funny looking at the guys who looked most promising from the 09' espoirs (in terms of GT). Never thought Kruijswijk would be leading the way. Sicard has been so very quiet. While Kritsky never seem to really recover from his injuries, he has been invisible since joining the pros.

He'll be down for domestique duties and wont figure in GC i'd suspect.

What wouldn't surprise me is if TJVG goes to BMC if HTC fold to meet up with his US mate TP.

Because Katusha in their infinite wisdom demoted him to their continental team for this season.

As for Tejay it's probably the same as the last Vuelta trying to hold on for as long as possible.

Oh I didn't realise. I know he never really recovered from the injuries he suffered from de l'avenir.

A shame, he was a talented young man.

For those on this side of the pond (USA) this is the first Tour for Tejay Van Garderen, a 22 year old from Montana with a potentially bright future. Even going back 5 years he was picked out as being a future star. Maybe the brightest who wasn't an offspring of famous cyclists. He's obviously going to be riding support, but he's a very good TT rider, and can climb.

Curious to see how he does, and what forum minds think.

As has been said already - a lot depends on how much work he has to do for the team. I think this year he will be thrown in the deep end and have to work for others, so while he is capable of a top 20 probably a top 30 would be an excellent result.

But I a looking forward to how he goes in the mountains - definitely one to watch for the future.

You would have to think that Radioshack (if they continue which is a big if) would like to bring him on as well

The idiots at Velosnooz and the commentators at Versus will talk about him as a contender for the White jersey and then when he finished between 15-20 overall they will wonder what happened.

TJ should just focus on completing the Tour and riding a smart race. It's too bad he has to worry about Cavendish.
