The 2025 CQ Ranking Manager Thread

I didn't consider him, but actually he was already quite good last year so could definitely be in for a breakthrough. But like, he's 26 year's old going into his fifth season as a pro, so it wasn't exactly written in the stars that he would suddenly explode this season.
He is a former triathlete so his background is a bit different and for the first three seasons he was with Astana. Moving to Movistar seems to have been very good for him.

Nobody picked Romo, luckily. He was one of my 200-300 guys that I debated putting in my team, but went with Dunbar instead. Hope I won't regret it come the end of the season. Romo really had the right profile for a potential big breakout.
Picked him in 2023 and was disappointed. Followed him in awe last year as he was frequently great and then he gets a win at TDU this year. CQ game luck!

I've had Romo the past two years. For 2025 I ddn't think he would progress that much, although today's performance was quite impressive.
He was up and thereabouts in quite a few races last year, but never got it right. Maybe he simply needed that to learn how to win on the big scene. Today's stage was his first pro win.

When I watched the race today, I first mixed up Javier Romo with the U23 TT champion Ivan Romeo, which I nearly picked. I had been annoyed already a bit, only to notice that it wasn´t him in the end and that Romo nobody picked at all in the game this year..

So three of my really popular picks (Bagioli, Philipsen and Gloag) performed well and are looking good to receive a lot of GC points in the end. 35 players have these riders combined by the way.. (Thanks @Shakes for implementing this really helpful feature).
Not so good for me is, that my rarer picks Schelling and Graat didn´t perform today.
So all in all mediocre day for me..

Also Movistar don't strike to me like a team that does well in terms of rider development. I duck most of their young riders and rarely be disappointed. This year i took only a breif look at this team and didn't really considered anyone.

I swapped Ewan for Mulubrhan in the last hours yesterday, but that probably means he will now score over 1000 points for INEOS.

I considered Durbridge because it was mentioned on here that he had studied the NC course extensively, but since he got effed over by a wrong radio message, I'm glad I left him out.

Durbridge got his revenge a few days later, Mulubrhan keeps his streak of being MIA in WT races alive, and now Ewan is definitely gonna score those 1000 points for INEOS.

He looked so much better last year than his points indicated though. Very good in the Dauphiné and Tour despite a long lay-off since Catalunya, and then consistently showed himself in every race until the end of the season without getting paid too much in terms of points. And Astana was clearly a worse fit than Movistar. And as has been pointed out, he's quite young in cycling career terms.

It's not like I was super close to including him over Dunbar, it was more like he was in a group of 3-4 riders who I could potentially pick for that awkward spot where I struggled to find someone I really believed in. But he would have been such a cool pick to have if he did well, being a not very obvious breakthrough rider like Narvaez last year, so I'm mostly regretting it because of that. Honestly surprised that nobody picked Romo, especially with how otherwise uninspiring the 200-400 range was this year.

It's not like a returning Viviani was a good fit at Ineos either. I'm not particularly worried, but actually hope that Ewan find some success, as he more than once have been unlucky when in peak condition to win big.
Yeah, I wouldn't have picked Ewan even if I knew about the Ineos news. I'm sick of having him in my CQ teams, and 30+ washed-up sprinters have never been kind to me in this game.

I was a bit surprised in both directions by Schmids ride today. Going in towards the final climb it looked like he was hugging the back of the field. Not sure if he was struggling to hold on or why he was so far back going into the climb but in the end he managed to be best of the riders who missed the first group finishing 16 seconds behind the main group so that was at least a positive sign.

TBF, Del Toro didn't go from being a 0 point straight-out-of-juniors kid to 700+ in one year.

No, but he did go from a small team to a WT team. Even if he isn't on Del Toro's level from last year, he will still have a great chance of scoring more points than Del Toro did in 2023.
