The nostalgia thread

I know a lot of posters(including myself) are very fond of looking back at the 'good ol days' with rose tinted glasses. In particular the 80s as this is when cycling started to really expand outside its traditional countries and the Anglo's really discovered the sport. I think a lot of people have disowned the 90s because of what it came to represent.

I was wondering if people can reccomend any good places for info, stories, pictures, videos on this era. I know there are some Youtube videos of Paris-Roubaix from the 80s and memoire-du-cyclisme is an excellent site for cycling historical facts & results.

Another favourite of mine is http://www.sirotti.it, an Italian photographer who has literally thousands of pictures from back in the day, especially Italian races. Fantastic place for nostalgia, Greg LeMond in PDM gear for example.

Perhaps, this belongs in the general thread and can be moved if necessary.

So any more reccomendations for me?

Can anyone tell me the story behing this amazing picture?

Its from the 1989 Giro on the big mountain stage over the Pordoi, Marmolada that is almost as famous as the Gavia stage in 88. Paul Kimmage vividly described the freezing conditions of this stage in A Rough Ride.

Marino Lejarreta is the guy crashing whislt climbing the Marmolada and it looks like his bike just slipped on the ice but I dont honestly know. I would appreciate any further clues.

That stage was from Misurana to Corvara. It went over the Giau (2233M), Marmolada (2057M), Pordoi (2239M) and Campolongo (1875M).

I've scanned the account that I have for you. If you want a pdf of it PM me.
