The official Lance Armstrong total BS quotes thread (with an anti-doping theme)

I'll start:

"I asked myself what I believed. I had never prayed a lot. I hoped hard, wished hard, but I didn't pray. I had developed a certain distrust of organised religion growing up, but I felt I had the capacity to be a spiritual person, and to hold some fervent beliefs. Quite simply, I believed I had a responsibility to be a good person, and that meant fair, honest, hardworking and honorable. If I did that, if I was good to my family, true to my friends, if I gave back to my community or to some cause, if I wasn't a liar, a cheat, or a thief, then I believed that should be enough. At the end of the day, if there was indeed some Body or presence standing there to judge me, I hoped I would be judged on whether I had lived a true life, not on whether I believed in a certain book, or whether I'd been baptised."
— Lance Armstrong (It's Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life)

“If you consider my situation: a guy who comes back from arguably, you know, a death sentence, why would I then enter into a sport and dope myself up and risk my life again? That's crazy. I would never do that. No. No way.”

“If you dominate a world sport you will always have questions and doubts. Perhaps at the end of the day we were too successful. When you win the Tour once, twice, seven times, it is just too hard to believe.”

“I figure the faster I pedal, the faster I can retire.

how many times?

“It's a great feeling when someone like Bernard Hinault comes up to you on the podium to say 'Welcome to the club”

The 'white lunch box' club or the 'Edgar Allan Poe' club?

“I am happy with the way my career went and I am happy with the way it ended.”

It aint over yet baby!

“If children have the ability to ignore all odds and percentages, then maybe we can all learn from them. When you think about it, what other choice is there but to hope? We have two options, medically and emotionally: give up, or Fight Like Hell.”

I was hoping 60 Minutes would include the soapbox/podium speech at the Tour in the compilation of Lance quotes they included at the end of the feature.

What did he say?

I think it was something along the lines of: To those who don't believe in miracles, I feel sorry for you.

"Every year the media comes up with something to describe my race … The first year it was "the comeback." Then it was the "the confirmation." I don't know what it was last year. This year, for me, it's "the year of the team." I can't say how I compare to the rider I was in 1999 or 2000 or 2001, but this team is much stronger than it has ever been. It has made it easier for me. "

Finally, the last thing I’ll say to the people who don’t believe in cycling, the cynics and the sceptics: I'm sorry for you. I’m sorry that you can’t dream big. I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles. But this is one hell of a race. This is a great sporting event and you should stand around and believe it. You should believe in these athletes, and you should believe in these people. I'll be a fan of the Tour de France for as long as I live. And there are no secrets — this is a hard sporting event and hard work wins it. So Vive le Tour forever!

"As long as I live I will deny that," he said about encouraging others to dope. "There is absolutely no way I forced people, encouraged people, told people, helped people, facilitated...absolutely not. 100 percent."

"Like I said, as long as we have a legitimate and credible and fair investigation I will be happy to co-operate but I'm not going to participate in any kind of witch hunt," he told USA Today before the start of the tenth stage.

"I've done too many good things for too many people,"

Yeah, you hooked up Ty!

"...I know you're going to find this hard to believe, but (Ferrari is), to me, totally clean, and totally ethical, believes in clean, fair sport, but produces great results with his athletes because he's -- he's so focused. But I never -- I never had a conversation with him regarding (Performance enhancing drugs)"

Funny, that isn't what the other guys said.

Dave.

" Rideclean you say the messenger does not matter so I suppose you have never heard of the concept called credibility. So if a child molester starts telling you about how you should take care of your children you would be good with that. Hamilton, Landis and Lemond have done more damage to cycling than any 3 individuals in the history of the sport."

i know i couldnt believe it - last night i made the mistake of posting a comment about in response to the line posted about "a body language expert said ___ about TH" about how people had said the same thing about LA, thinking back to all the discussions that went on here when the SCA depo videos came online, and look at all the prattle that generated!
