The injury he sustained in the Giro, stage 2, turns out to be a broken spine . He rode on to stage 17 with that...

You can get a hairline fracture without it meaning you've 'broken your back'.

Given he rode on it was obviously a minor issue as spinal fractures go. Not sure I appreciate the attempt to try and link the genuine horror of spinal cord injuries with this topic - that link is the only reason people are giving 'wow' responses.

True, but there are loads of cyclists out there who abandon GTs for less reasons. Like a certain Mark Renshaw.

Well, obviously it's not a broken back in the paraplegic sense of it. But come on, how many of you have ridden after pulling your back or tweaking a muscle in your neck? It ****ing sucks. This has to be much worse

Waterloo's point still pretty much stands though. Apperently, since he almost drove the Giro to the end, the injury wasn't that serious nor that painful.

But obviously, he has felt something throughout and he did quite a job staying in the race for so long.

Sad to hear but it would appear that the pain couldn't have been that great, hopefully it won't keep him off the bike for too long.

Honestly I have no idea how much of a problem a hairline fracture in your spine is. For all I know, it might not even hurt more than a hairline fracture in your arm.

L3 is lower back, it may not hurt like hell, but it can be very annoying, especially if you are in certain position

Well, that puts paid to the "Theo Bos can't climb" discussion I guess... he rode 16 stages of the Giro with a broken vertebra.

which our pussies from the football squad where even half as tough

De Jong and Van Bommel! You must be joking. England have no one even half as tough as them.

On topic: Kudos to Bos especially as he wasnt really going to get much from staying and could have easily gone off at 13 like other sprinters.

Paybacks a bi$$ch

Remember Bos threw Daril Impey into the barriers during the Tour of Turkey a few years ago and fractured his vertebrae so bad he was prone for months. I think he received a paltry 2 month suspension that piece of sportsmanship.

I had some problems with my Lumbar vertebrae(I have 6 instead of the normal 5) and it hurt like hell. Could barely walk for a few weeks... No problem with it anymore now though. Pain went away because of rest.

I don't know what the exact reason was of my pain though, so long ago. The only thing I remember is the excruciating pain.
