100% agreed. I posted a similar sentiment back in September when he stuck with his team and Jean-Rene Bernaudeau. Top bloke and probably my favourite rider. :D

Hope to see him win a Tour stage again this year. That would make his season good.

Looking forward to see Thomas and Thomas in some breakaways in the Tour :)

My absolute favourite memory of Voeckler is his epic battle to keep the yellow jersey as long as possible in 2004. He always looked completely smashed and Armstrong cool as always but still he was able to hold on to it for quite a while.

Then last year I was surprised to hear it was his first Tour de France stage win ... I guess because of the many breakaways and the maillot jaune I had just assumed that he'd already won. The cool thing about him is that he actually has quite a large and impressive palmarès ... other super-combattifs such as Amets Txurruka sadly don't.

So I'm really glad he can rack up all these victories for Europcar ... I bet the CEO is very happy by now that he took the risk. In a very small degree it already worked - when I had to rent a car in January, I went with Europcar partially because they took over the team (and they had a service station nearby). The funny thing is that although he is so well-liked by the fans, he hinted in an interview at the fact that this was not the case with other teams or DS's (that is to say no one really wanted him on their team).

I also just read that apparently he was the only one of his team to finish the Giro in 2001 (his rookie season).

A couple of years ago I read a humourous preview of the Tour which predicted Voeckler would win the maillot blanc "on the account of him looking like a 15-year old." :D

But Andy looks AND acts llike a 15 year old, so he's going to break the record of Jan Ullrich this year :D

Last year was Voeckler's second stage win at the Tour by the way.

It beats the P&P couple :p (Pippo and Phil)

Easily does beat it, only thing one P does is clinge to the other P's wheel and suck it like his life depends on it and ruin P's chances of breaking clear.. ;D

Was fortunate to be at the Luchon stage this year. Tommy V had an impressive win

The next day he was like a rockstar at the sign on. Expected the house wives to toss their panties at him

It wasn't, he won in 2009 too, just keeping off the sprinters after a brave attack.

Amazingly, he already has 5 victories this season, which is extremely impressive for someone who's not a sprinter.

He won a stage in 2009. It was ironic because 2009 was the flatest stage and in 2010 he won won of the hilliest, but last year was not his first TDF stage win.

Agreed. I loved his pluck as a neo-fan in 2004 during the epic maillot jaune week and a half. I remember from 06-08 in the Tours, he would go on crazy attacks to bridge a gap or try to break away at the most seemingly ridiculous times, and the English commentators would make fun of him for it, 'oh he's in no-man's land again, etc'. But to me he always represented one of the things I really appreciate about the sport, and sports in general, which is pure determination to take a chance. Like Chavanel, or Ignatiev, or even Vino. Now he seems to have matured and times his attacks more patiently to take advantage of a race-winning situation.

But combined with that is a charm and class off the bike that was evident especially in the sponsor issue last year. He handled himself very honourably, as he has done on the racecourse, the most recent example coming to mind was him taking the overall at Haut Var and ushering Antomarchi to the stage win. A rare breed is Tommy V, I hope he keeps having successes this year in both small and bigger races.

Indeed.... wow, I have a new man-crush!

Yeah, I think it's just a total lack of any excess weight with all those days' racing in the legs.

One thing I love about TV is his total visibility. If he isn't off the front, he's sat there on the back, cool as a cucumber, while I'm thinking wasn't I taugh that was about the worst spot to be in? :)

Voeckler, de Ghendt, and Amets Txurruka to get in a Tour breakaway. Would hate to be the team chasing them down.

Don't say that.

If Moncutie threw himself in with those three, they stayed away and Ametxa took the win, i think i'd never watch cycling again*, that would be a highlight never to be beaten. 4 of my favourite rider's in a break? I'm weak at the legs just thinking about it

*I reserve the right to return to the sport the next day :D

Been a fan of TiVo since the yellow jersey fight, and that smile and celebration as he slumped over the handlebars crossing the line knowing he'd saved the yellow jersey for another day. Definitely the highlight of that tour.

I'm not into hero worshipping at all but must say that when Thomas Voeckler is involved in a race and towards the front that the racing is all the more exciting. To me, he is what professional cycling is all about. He takes chances, shakes things up, pours his heart and guts out on the bike with the knowledge that maybe he will win and maybe he will not. But...he takes the chances necessary at times to get the win. Class act in my opinion.
