But going up a mountain, team support helps a lot less, if at all. More so if the riders are continental rather than WT.

They can get a few seconds maybe in the first 8km but then Evans Porte are very good tters so wont be far behind if at all, and once the mountain starts, Evans Porte should blow these teams away. Hell Id expect Evans Porte to beat Quikstep on this tt, forget Jayco, or Team Russia.

On 2nd thoughts, you are probably right. Would like o see some pro teams have a go at this TTT in a big race. Would be quite funny to watch teams crumble. :p

Phil Liggett predicted Cadel to be a future winner of the tour de france. I guess it is his "birthplace" as a road cyclist.

im gathering jordan - you're new to cycling, have never ridden down a cat-1 or HC descent before? if you had, then you'd know they're not exactly rests!

my advice would be go to a C1 or HC in italy, switzerland, france or spain, and ride down it.
see if you come back?

Andorra itself is pretty weak though. Were there any major climbs before that, or is BR just posting his favorite moment?

Also Mosqueras was better;)

Your lack of cycling knowledge is remarkable:rolleyes:
The stage was super long, it was super hot, there were many climbs, it was ridden at a ridicilous pace. Just look at the Gaps in Andorra.

It was Portet d'Aspet, Port, Port d'Envalira, Ordino, Arcalis.

One of the hardest (post-war) must have been stage 18 in the 1983 Tour - Glandon, Aravis, Madeleine, Colombiere, Joux Plane over 247 km.

Arcalis is an underated climb (mainly because of the disappointing stage in '09, as a result of a head wind). The climb itself is about 11 kms @ 7% (which is about in-between a cat 1 and 2), but it generally climbs steadily for a long way before that. Not sure of the exact facts, but I think the 30 kms before it are mostly about 3% uphill.

That Gavia stae in 1988 is mental. Just can't imagine riding in that sort of weather!

Personal favourite is the stage to les Deux Alpes in 1998 when Pantani rode into yellow and put 9 minutes into Ullrich.

Slightly OT, but reading Slaying the Badger the other day - Robert Millar's description of the 1984 stage to Alpe d'Huez when Hinault and Fignon went head-to-head on the Col de Laffrey sounds as if it would have been pretty amazing to watch (haven't been able to find any youtube clips of that part of the stage)

One of my personal favourites - stage 15 from Giro '07:

Correct. It was already stated in this same thread.

I had a beta recording of the stage. I looked like the riders were climbing in slow motion on the Joux Plane. That was the infamous stage in which Patrocinio Jimenez lost 15 minutes waiting for a wheel change.

Madeleine and Joux Plane in the same stage sais it all. Maybe the two hardest alpine passes ever used in Tour.

Thanks - I see Libertine even found a profile for it. I'm sure I saw footage of the stage on youtube a while ago, but I can't find it at the moment.
