But I also expect Van Aert to go into pure domestique mode no later than wednesday.

just watched George Bennetts rest day podcast - he talked about this - said they expect him to 'stop playing with everyones balls' and basically their play will be to send WVA up the road to try help any leaders coming across to try blow things apart

also - interesting comment from him related to all the sickness chat on this thread.. he was saying the stage where he got a double puncture in the first 5 ks and it took him like 70kms to get back to the bunch - he was delayed as there's an entire group of 'sick guys' riding together

And now GB is out!

All teams still do regular testing themselves. It's in their own self-interest to continue the testing to mitigate the risk of an outbreak within the entire team.

I also disagree that the new UCI protocol only obliges "really sick" riders to disappear from the race. If a rider tests positive by means of a PCR test, a medical panel - consisting of the doctor of the involved team, a doctor of the UCI and the designated doctor of the TDF - will decide on possible isolation. They will take into consideration the relevant clinical elements. If the viral load is high enough to risk infection of other riders or if the rider’s own health is at stake, he will not be allowed to continue.

To be clear, such decision was not made yesterday because all tests were negative. Contrary to what you write, it seems that teams have not let riders who tested positive continue to ride.

I am also surprised that Guillaume Martin allegedly said that he would not have been required to leave if the UCI protocol was applied. He can’t possibly know what the panel of doctors would have decided in his case. Moreover, he has been sent home by his team, so in consultation with the team doctor. That same doctor would have been involved in the UCI panel decision, so it's unlikely that the decision based on the UCI protocol would have been any different.
Well, we noticed what "the panel of doctors" decided after the (evening before) restday tests. Miraculously, no one was taken off course. Such coincidence is unbelievable. But if you still believe in Santa Claus.... The next day, after the next test of the Emirates-team, Bennett was send home by his team.
The slightly contagious Majka was allowed to stay. But that was a decision of the team.

So yes, Martin would certainly still have been in the Tour, if he had only been tested by ASO/UCI (with the new protocol) the evening before the rest day.

I'll let you continue your fantasy that if a rider has an illness/sickness that teams will do NOTHING.
Wrong again. Of course really sick riders will be sent home. Because otherwise they can infect other riders. They can no longer perform at the top level. But not the riders who have a slight sore throat, and who otherwise feel good. Like Martin a few days ago and Majka yesterday. Majka was already able to take advantage of the UCI protocol applied for the first time on the rest day. Martin wasn't.

The UCI protocol measures the viral load from your COVID infection - A low viral load means you are not infectious - Anyway you should be a consultant because you know better than the experts.
