Wait, Rettenbachgletscher = Rettenbachferner = Otztalgetscherstrasse right?

That's a great climb for sure, but I think it's a bit lame to have an epic MTF in neighbouring country when your own country is filled with mountains.......

Oberalp + Lukmanier should be awesome though. Long live the descent finish.

the beast equals 5 verbiers and 2 albula passes though

I'd rather they use their own mountains better though.....

If they want to have a monstrous mountains stage there is plenty of opportunity in Switzerland that they're wasting. Why not do the obvious Col du Lein (13,3km at 9%) - Verbier? Or Moosalp (18,1km at 8,6%) - Saas-Fee? Or Crans-Montana - Col du Sanetsch (29km at 6%)?

The beast in Austria is good for the Tour of Austria.....

Also, hopefully the stage to Biel/Bienne will have a good finale in the Jura mountains. :)

Suisse has always done Malbun though, and Dauphiné had Col de la Gueulaz last year.

And Suisse has also had a number of Austrian finishes before at Serfaus of all places. That'd be like the Tour rocking through the Aosta valley to put a finish at Cogne - of all the possibilities, why that?! Rettenbachferner is a godly climb. It is the Mortirolo, 1000m higher. I could only be happier if it were Kaunertal.

Agreed, there are approximately 8 000 great climbs the Swiss could be using and aren't - Sanetsch, Lein, Planches, Thyon 2000, Chandolin, Dixence, Samnaun, Alpe di Neggia, Gueulaz to name a few.

But still, the Österreich-Rundfahrt never uses the Rettenbachferner, it's too high to be trustworth for the Giro (which means that nigh on perfect trio of Jaufenpass/Monte Giovo, Rombo/Timmelsjoch and Rettenbachferner is highly unlikely to ever be seen), and the Deutschlandtour is no more. And it's too good to go unused.
