Terrible. And here I thought track cycling was super safe compared to riding out inches from maniacal drivers.

That is an odd "thought". Track cycling IS much safer than riding in traffic. That doesn't mean track cycling is safe, or without accident.

I did not know Jackie Dunn - but I do know the circumstances are tragic.

I don't think I know of any posters on the CN forums who would not offer their condolences. The article originally linked also mentions support efforts. This might be your chance to assist and "take a pull".

As a track cyclist and coach (on Chiang Mai velodrome most days) I am very saddened to read this story. There have been very few fatalities on velodromes over the years and it affects us all when this happens. So sad. Best wishes to her team mates and her nearests and dearests.

This could've happened to any of us. I tend to believe that track cyclists do not consider the dangers of riding indoors, and think they're safe because they do not ride in open traffic/hard terrain. Might be just me, though. I'm really sorry for her and all her nearest friends.
