Track Racing and tucking in

I've not kept a great account of this, but it seems like for the multi-day track races (like a madison), the racers have to tuck their shirts into their shorts.

Why not wear bib shorts? Skin suits?

Is this just a traditional thing?

Because the shirts are from the organizer (with their sponsors), the shorts from the team?
Often pairs from 2 different teams -> same shirts, different shorts.

Just more convenient, i guess...

Maybe it goes back to the old days of Madison racing when handslings were against the rules and everyone used a "jamming tool" (about the size and shape of a very modest dildo, but usually made of a rolled up washcloth wrapped in duct tape) tucked into a pocket on the left hip of their reinforced wool shorts. The rider going out would grab this and sling his partner into the race. Teammates wore matching jerseys and everyone wore the same black wool shorts. Please don't ask me how I know.

Edit: Buffalo Soldier probably got it right.

Who should make the skinsuits? The organizer? The private teams? So a different skinsuit for every race?

This + couples are often formed not long before the race (in case of injuresies even changed during) -> so no time for making skinsuits.

Exactly, the organizers provide sponsored jerseys for each of the teams, so they'll be wearing jerseys and shorts instead of skinsuits.

Riders will likely ride in shorts from the team they actually belong to.
