Can anyone tell me why Sky would be interested in Rosa? He doesn't have an awful lot in terms of results and I am well aware of Conti's tendency to talk rubbish.

rosa is a monster talent that you wouldn't know

Time for some Beppe News which is mostly about Alonso and his team project.
It seems that he has some troubles to get the money for the project; he has been talking at first with Cannondale for a possible buyout of the team and then the talks were also done with the actual Giant-Shimano, but without the money/sponsor secured he can't go on.

Bakala is a businessman, Alonso is not, he will not pay a single penny from those "millions on his bank account", and why should he.

It should be the other way around, doesn't it? Bakala isn't the sponsor of the OPQS team, how can he earn money? Alonso is in it for the fun, so why not spend some spare change money?

Walter Planckart from Topsport Vlaanderen - Balloise says in this interview that 5 of his riders are ready to go on to a bigger team.

That must be
Van Asbroeck
Vanbilsen
Helven
Lampaert
and ?

Well Sporza said Lotto have pre contracts with Asbroeck and Vanbilsen.

I think you forgot Van Stayen from the list, he looked very promising last year. Some PT team is bound to give him a shot. Maybe Declerq too/

Not sure about Helven. Van Asbroeck, Vanbilsen, Lampaert, Waeytens and Wallays?

he says they are ready for a step. not that any team wants them. the only team ever taking topsport vlaanderen guys is lotto occasionallu/ but usually those riders are stuck in that team forever until they go down to ct teams.

Yep, lately likes of Serry, Vandewalde, Vanmarcke or De Gendt moved to Lotto :D

Anyway, Vanbilsen and Asbroeck are ready as can be seen in their results. Others, I dont tthink so.

Conti news;

-Alonso seems to have lost the opportunity (hope?) to find a sponsor in Dubai and now is looking for an alternative in Spain.
He would have found a deal with Cervelo which would probably bring Alonso to team Garmin with a smaller project compared to previous idea.

-Sagan had almost found a deal with Tinkoff-Saxo but Contador was against the idea as he wants a team build around him for 2015 and he would prefer to have Kwiatoski as he's strong at TT (as the rider is already on Specialized the deal might be easier).

-Cannondale is sure to lose Sagan at the end of the year and also Basso who wanna keep riding. The team would focus on youngsters like Viviani and Gatto while having a bigger budget from Sojasun who wanna have Demare and Bohuanni in the team (if I heard correctly...).

Bouhanni could be a possibility, but I'd say he'd want to go to a team he'd be a full on leader, with Vivani its a similar thing to Demare at FDJ.

Although he would lead the Tour team with Sagan gone I guess.

I think I remember some other rumor a while back talking about Cervelo leaving Garmin to be the bikes for Alonso's new team. And there was another bike manufacturer that was going to step in for Garmin. Can't remember the exact details of it though.

The more I think about it, the more I think BMC would be the best option for Sagan. They don't have a top rider like him that automatically get's leadership in every race, he would have a extremely strong team for the classics and some great lieutenants (GVA, Phinney, etc.), they're one of the few teams that can afford him, and they've finally got things together this season, are working more as a team, and the results are showing. Sagan could benefit greatly by signing with them IMO.

Can't see BMC signing Sagan unless Gilbert and Evans left and neither is a certainty especially if Evans does well in the Giro and Gilbert's current form continues. GVA is doing better, and BMC have some other young riders who should also improve. BMC should never have let Frank go but I suppose Frank wanted to be a team leader in GTs which he would only have got at the Vuelta for BMC.

I don't think either would take too many resources away from Sagan. Evans should he choose to continue will be focused on GT's and smaller stage races. Smaller stage races would probably be where they would meet and 1 or 2 climbers on the team for Evans would still give Sagan plenty of help for the sprints.

Gilbert, maybe if he decided to ride and try to win the Belgian classics again, but I think he'll be more focused on Ardennes. There could be a conflict at MSR, but they could also use Gilbert as the attacker and Sagan as the sprinter.

You know in which country the Ardennes are located, right? :)

I honestly don´t think AC have much to say about Sagan, if Oleg want´s Sagan and Sagan want´s to sign a contract, then AC can shout as much as he likes, Oleg will sign him, without a doubt.
Oleg dont strike me as the kind of person who asks permission, no matter who it is.. If he want´s Sagan, the contract is signed.

If Sagan want to of course, but if the check is big enough, he wont say no.

No retirements this year? It seems that most of the top riders want another season.

The peloton continues to age. In 1995, the oldest WT guy was 35. These days it's almost considered strange for a 35 year old to retire.
