"It is a race. People pour thousands of dollars into aero and light equipment, only to lose that time in the outhouse......."

This is the justification for p1ssing on yourself during the bike segment. Sometimes the running one as well. I could understand a pro whose living depended on it but have a hard time undersanding the need for a 34 year old age grouper to pee on himself so he can take 20th place in his age group.

Remind me to never touch a triathlete's bike without plastic gloves.

Or buy a time-trial bike or an aero helmet...

I dont have a problem with it. People have their own goals and PB's they want to improve on. Im sure none of them are asking you to touch their bike.

there is a legendary thread in a forum somewhere about a triathlon chick who took "going on your bike" to another level... on a training ride! i've never laughed so hard..

that thread is gold.

also i would never do such thing as going number 1 on me. number 2 is not even up to discussion.

seriously don't these people have any sense of personal hygiene? i would understand a pro rider on an important race and important part of the race going number 1 on himself if he really couldn't hold it but seriously thats going way to far.

what is the standard in the peloton today? my sister keeps asking me . . . .

LeMond. With diarrhea. Staying on his bike.

At least he won that Tour, otherwise he'd have had to kill himself.

The IM Florida poop guy, who stood around like this for ten minutes after finishing despite the ocean being a couple hundred meters away. The dude actually got his finishing picture before cleaning himself up. I think that is what is called a *** eating grin.

Triathletes are strange.

Initially when I went to the local ride I didn't understand the difference between triathletes and cyclists. I was neither. Just a guy trying to lose weight and get in shape. Only later did I realise how *** triathletes are. This subject is a prime example of that.

Laughs aside for second...
I've always felt there's a problem with a culture of "over-hydrating" that's evolved over the past few decades. I see guys running behind a tree to pee in the first two to three miles of a full, or even half, marathon. Wtf are people doing to themselves? Regardless of the type of event or distance, there's an obsession with drinking an unrealistic amount of water the night before, and morning of, a race. Common sense tends to, quite literally, go down the drain.

Steady on - some of us are triathletes in our spare time. Pre race nervous bowel means there's no problem with number twos during a race for me - and most others judging from the toilet queues. As well excess fluid can easily be dealt with on the swim leg. Fortunately Orca makes their wetsuits with a urine coloured inside layer. As for peeing during the bike or run I think the vast majority of people stop first - the chafeing is definitely something to be avoided.

Action photo of the same dude during the run. It is on the official photographer's site. You can order prints, including poster size.

You would think that he could have grabbed water from an aid station and doused his legs, but nooooo.

Why doesn't triathlon have rules against this? This dude must have run through aid stations touching stuff including volunteers.
