Quote from article:
According to Sudouest.fr, the governing body of cycling based its refusal upon the confidentiality of these "personal medical elements".

Named and Shamed but good enough for UCI Justice ?

Never before today did i think that UCI was unable to cooperate with Authorities in the fight against drugs !

Those saying riders are protected now have an additional line of argument !

I'll chime in. This was the Tour where riders had to sign the agreement to pay a big fine if they tested positive. I think in Vino's case it went to CAS because the UCI tried to get him to pay a year's salary in order to be welcomed back as a rider. If they refused to turn over evidence to police, and at the time thought they'd actually be seeing large cash payments from the riders, then...

Moreni did pay the cash. I dn't know how he felt when the CAS decided Vino didn't have to because it was a marketing tool more than a legal agreement. But in the end, you have a guy giving a pile of cash to the organization that refused to turn over evidence that he had broken the law.

Protected riders?

The UCI successfully prosecuted vino/iban/christian to the full extent.
Timely and fair prosecution. No mistrials.

The Feds from France spent 5 years and dropped the case.
What a waste of taxpayer euros sigh.

Crackpot Theory

My hypothesis is that the information would be damning to the UCI in at least two ways.

1. Law enforcement (at least) will discover the enormous number of doping positives the UCI does not enforce.

2. It will open the UCI up to the liability that their inaction is a kind of aiding and abetting doping.

The pressure needs to be raised on the UCI as this could finally eliminate any authority the UCI has in the doping enforcement process.

Not great news compared to the Italian stories earlier this week

More good news! Let's hope the French law enforcement are allowed to do their job.

As Landis has been trying to point out, and is now being sued for it, the French investigators would be far better off investigating the UCI than pursuing any one or any group of cyclists.

Dave.

Better off than investigating Floyd.
Far better off I agree.

Unlike Floyd, the UCI might actually show up for the court appearances.

But don't get me wrong, Floyd is one of my FAVORITE cyclists lol.
Although the manrod twitter thing is kind of lame imo.

Hey, I agree with Polish

It is terrible how the UCI impeded the case and wasted taxpayer funds. If they had just done their job this would have been finished years ago

The manrod twitter thing is a lot less lame than some other comedy acts around here.
Did I mention that Floyd is one of my favorite cyclists?

Please let me know if this meets the criteria for cycling content, also I hope it is sufficiently vague so as not to constitute an attack.

he did it first is no excuse

"he did it first" is a lame excuse I would never use lol.

Floyd would not use that excuse either I bet.
He is one of my top 10 favorite cyclists of all time.
The UCI might use that excuse maybe? grrrr they suck grrrrr.

BTW, the case/charges that the French Police dropped - anyone know what the charges were?

Looks like the UCI asked the French authorities for a particular method of request that was impossible to apply.

Seems like obfuscation to me.

Really interesting analysis. It would be nice to see a journalist ask the UCI why they did this - and why they have deliberately derailed a criminal investigation.

When are we gonna see a journalist do their homework on the UCI and go after them about the shambles they are making of the sport.

This is but another episode of the UCI being absolutely disgusting in anyway of trying to manage the sport. How anyone outside the sport looks in and sees anything but doping and huge incompetence by the international federation is beyond me

In the comments on that article, the poster GreaseMonster had this to say:

I generally do not get annoyed about things beyond my control, but the UCI gets to me. Is there the chance of Novitsky calling on Pat to testify when he visits the US for the ToC?

That'd be interesting. Chances? Has Fat Pat considered it?

In this case, AEG put up a ton of money, so I would think he would need to show up. I don't know if he makes a habit of showing up at his best customers events.
