Since his suspension is retroactive, will Valverde be able to race the Tour de France in 2112?

Well seeing as how 2112 is over a hundred years away, I would agree with the previous poster, he'll be dead.

As to what I assume you meant to ask, yes. His suspension expires at the end of 2011 (Jan 1, 2012), so he would be able to enter the TdF that year as far as his suspension goes. Obviously other factors would play into him entering the TdF.

To the OP - yes, the ban ends 1st January 2012 - he is free to race from then.

Somebody had mentioned in another thread that the use of drugs on certain living organisms (Keith Richards) may actually pickle them thus providing extraordinary longevity.
So don't dismiss the possibility of a 2112 comeback.

I will miss him racing actually, the guy is a great rider.

You're a man after my own heart.
I am not sure however if he will race the TDF in 2012. 2112 for sure not. But there are the factors of fitness, old age, and most importantly a Pro Tour team. But hopefully this will all be taken care of and in 2012 we can all enjoy watching Mr. Piti ride and maybe win something.

I will miss him as well as he was pretty much my favorite rider for about a 4 year stretch. I remember when I became a fan. It was during the 2003 Vuelta when he was 23. He finished top 10 in 12 of the 21 stages (and 11 of 21 the following year) racing for Kelme. I remember thinking "this guy is going to be really, really good." I was already a Kelme fan at the time so it was an easy sell for me.

He'll only be 32 which is younger than many other riders we've seen come back to the top of the sport lately.
