Looking at another set of wheels for a second gravel bike. I'm pretty sold on the wider rims and currently have a set of Hed Belgiums on DT240s. These have been great wheels and have needed just one minor adjustment over 12,000 miles.

Velocity has their A23s and I wonder how these compare to the HEDs? Another makers of wide rims I should look at?

H+Son Archtype
Pacenti

A23 have had some QC issues since they moved manufacturing from Australia to FLA, but since cleared pretty much. A23 'builds' like HED, for less $, same for other mentioned rims. Not sure why HED so expensive, for an alloy rim made 'off shore', well I do, HED decal.

Look at DT350 hubs also, Same guts as 240, less $, Asian made shell, all else DT Euro-

I'm running an H+Son Archetype on the rear, and a Pacenti on a White Ind hub on the front (halfway through an upgrade to Pacenti/White front and rear). Nothing to report really, both seem like nice rims.

The H +Son Archetype is supposedly stiffer than the A23 although I haven't tried it. Are you looking for the more or less the same profile as the A23?. H+Son also has a box section 23mm rim-like an old school MA-40 only 23mm wide. And DT also has a new 23mm rim, the R 460. Has anybody tried it? It is available online at a very good price right now. The joint is pinned not welded like the Archetype but is it the same DT quality?

Pacenti SL23 has taken over as the king of the wide road rims at my shop, and I build with all mentioned. Have had Pacenti builds seemingly on a weekly basis for the better part of the last year, people really dig them.

Have a wheel building studio in Portland's NW industrial district. Moved in a month ago. I'm 1 mile from Chris King!

Portland? Well poo, so much for meeting for a drink during one of my annual trips to Boulder.

But more seriously, hope things are working out for you, best of luck. :)
