Former UCI president speaks

"That's impossible, because there is nothing. I repeat again: Lance Armstrong has never used doping. Never, never, never. And I say this not because I am a friend of his, because that is not true. I say it because I'm sure. Even if we would like, it would not be possible to bury a positive test. Test results are not only to the UCI, but also to the WADA.

"So once and for all: under my chairmanship have such practices never occurred at the UCI."

He added, “Hamilton says about the same as Landis, without naming names of people to blame. Well, Landis has a trial on his hands. He must prove his words in court.”

Mr Verbruggen, please give full details of the court case against Floyd Landis which you mention as it seems that the courts in Switzerland know nothing of it ???

What an extraordinary comment for Verbruggen to make.

They are starting to run for cover it seems. Funny that they haven't figured out that at this point they are best to just say nothing at all.

Omerta at full swing.

The IOC is probably complicit in all this.

The Swiss government should seriously start asking itself why it keeps providing shelter to criminals of this calibre.

"oh yeah except that one time with the corticosteroid but that was for saddle sores. I was there I applied the *** cream for him"

Okay, I understand he has to defend himself, but I'd expect him to be more intelligent than to deny so categorically that Armstrong ever doped. It's such a beginner's strategic mistake. Almost makes it look like he fears his fate and Armstrong's are intertwined!

Then again, until I see a link I'm going to assume this is satire.

These guys remind me of the cheesy “James Bond villains” who carry around plump white cats…. or have an eye-patch or something.

Perhaps The Onion bought CN and I missed the memo? No? Hmm, ok, then Verbruggen went full ***.

Full Developmentally Disabled, if you please. I can see him wearing a helmet and a harness for his next interview. Yikes.

Hey, is that warrior on a fixie @ 0:58? ;)

-------------

How in the f&@k would Hein know if StrongArm ever doped?
If he ran the same stupid "never tested positive" line I would understand the worn-out tactic, but to stretch into realms that are beyond his capability to even know?

They're making this whole collapse just too easy.

Read between the lines.

"Even if we would like, it would not be possible to bury a positive test. Test results are not only to the UCI, but also to the WADA."

You have to realize who you are dealing with when you parse the denials. Sleazy types know how to deny by "bobbing and weaving".

In spite of all of the bluster, what is said by Verbrugen is "We managed to get the positive test suppressed at the lab, before it became 'official'. Therefore, if any coverup occurred, it wasn't at the UCI, or WADA.".

If you know how these guys work, this is a CONFESSION, not a denial.

Of course the UCI facilitated the coverup, but they convinced the lab to take responsibility for it.

You're right.

But Hein is toasted.
The Swiss lab employee Martial Saugy (from LAD) has given details under oath to the Feds about how it all went down.
In the Sueddeutsche Zeitung, he is quoted today as affirming that "it doesn't look good for our lab, it's a critical situation". Though he refused to comment, he hasn't denied any of the affirmations made by CBS.

Armstrong “never doped" means he never doped.

Armstrong “never, never doped" means he never “never doped", which means he always doped.

Armstrong “never, never, never doped" means he never “never, never doped", which means he never always doped. IOW, he doped some of the time, but was careful not to do it all the time.

I think I can buy that.

So Hein really was telling the truth...whoda thunk it?
