You've got to be kidding... I'm reading now there is apparently no truth to the rumours about one or two descent finishes. The Granada stage will actually finish in Sierra Nevada again, and the Pola de Lena stage probably on top of the Cobertoria.

The amount of MTFs for the next edition of the Vuelta is rumoured to be between 11 and 13.

Just when you think Unipublic can't get more ridiculous...

Ah, they beat the Stelvio altitude MTF record.

Yeah, looks like that's what they were after. Kinda lame, though. It flattens out and then there's no climbing for 2 kms straight. It pretty much ensures a waiting game until the last 1.5 steep kms.

If they wanted an extended Sierra Nevada climb it would make a lot more sense to go up Veleta as far as possible.

The rumour says the finish will be in El Dornajo (km 17 of the profile), according to PRC twitter (it's still to be decided though).
That would be horrible.

Ah, I see. That would make more sense for Unipublic and the direction the Vuelta is heading.

I think they are making a big mistake, trying to copy and increase last years route. It'll scare a lot of top rides off.
OK, the race in 12 was great, but that was mainly down to Contador, not the route.
He'll concentrate on the TdF in 13, and the Vuelta will again go back to being the poor relation of the 3 Gt's.

Did you skip your homework Coinneach? Ostrich-mimicry has limited utility in the long run.

Can Unipublic get any more ridiculous... it is unreal. Was it really that difficult to ride down and finish in Granada, a big city? It's just 18kms from the top of the climb, through a wide, excellent road.

Alas, no! We absolutely need the 189289726th steep MTF!!

there are alkways a ton of riders who have failed the giro or the tour that will always ride the vuelta. whatever course it is. so it's not a big mistake

I believe the maximum amount of MTFs possible is... 21.
So yes, they can :D

Maybe they can have a and b stages like some smaller stage races have?

They could start with a short prologue finishing on top of a hill in the morning, then have a 80km stage that's flat with a MTF later on the day.

They could have even more than 21 MTF's

as for now Worldtour races can't have a and b stages, so don't worry! :p

Sure, but surely a GT has to have the best riders trying to win it, not a bunch of folk using it as a season add-on/second chance (or warm up for the Worlds, dropping out after the first week)
